Bosch WBo2 Sensor in Rich environment.

Here is my question, My car has had a ton of installs done, and hasnt been driven, (just started and rolled around the block a little). I havent got it tuned yet, and I want to plug my wbo2 sensor in and tune this weekend, but right now the car is SUPER-RICH. I mean rich like no other, I can tell from the smell and feel. Is it okay to install it and log some pulls in this condition??

Thanks,
J

if i were you i would try to find a reputable tuner before i did any pulls you should at least install the wideband and run the car for a short time to see exactly how rich you are running. dont run it any longer than you need to find out the a/f/r cuz i believe if you run a really rich motor there is a chance u will wash the piston rings which can just lead on to worse stuff

maybe someone with more tech knowledge will jump in here soon to help out with better info.

You will kill your o2 sensor and your cat. Stop and get it tuned

Appreciate the info, I have barely ran it at all. I was worried about the sensor!! Now I hear rings... oh geez..
Anyone know for sure if it would be okay to stick the sensor in and get a a/f reading, and if I do, should I only take it at idle or what?
Thanks

As for the above poster, I havent driven it yet, I have other cars. I dont have a cat either so thats a non-issue. Thanks for the heads up though!

it always good to have another car to drive when your car is under the knife

look at it this way though really rich is better than really lean.

knock FTL!

where are all the techies at? LOL!

Yes Knock FTL. I could almost promise that theres no knock. Its more of a sloshing sound! (j/k). I think at idle it should trim itself out if I am correct, but Id rather hear all the details before playing around.

I would start the car, let it warm up (it will probably suck about a 1/4 tank of gas just idling to warm up) and see what you pull on the WB02 just idling. I would NOT drive it until you know what afr is at idle... Then I would log a WB AFR keeping the rpms really low and drive it around the block. Do NOT drive around the block like Mario Andretti because you're itching to see what it can do...

P.S. Please tell us what you did exactly to the car so we can help you get started...

Okay, I havent taken it over 5-10 mph, and the engine has been running for about 15 minutes tops in the last 2 weeks. The installs effecting the engine are as follows.

QTP 3" Downpipe w/ cutout
ported/coated o2 housing
ported/coated exhaust manifold
ETS full IC pipes
ETS 3.5" Intercooler
ETS Intake (w/ k&n cone filter)
Custom 2 stage EBC w/ Meth Failsafe inputs (Ill do a how-to when I get time)
Walbro 255lph

I have a TON of other things to install... but figured it would be a good time to get her running again.

I am using the stock Exhaust but the DP cutout is essentially a 3" straight pipe.
My EBC has been flow/bench tested by me, and is set to Wastegate pressure, ie: both solenoids in the fully open position between compressor and wastegate. I have the LC1 installed except for the sensor, just need to pop it in and do a cal. HFS-5 is installed and wired, but not connected to piping yet, Im not that far along yet. Other than that it has been interior mods/radio/wiring up the butt.

I thought at first it would run lean, the cutout needs to be hi-temp silicone sealed still, so that may be my smell, but then I thought the fuel pump would richen it up. So im really not "positive" where I stand.

Thanks guys

Those are generic bolt-ons... I can't see you running THAT rich already...

Pop in the WB, let the car warm up at idle and tell me what you have for AFR.

P.S. What injectors are you using? Is you latency and scaling correct?

Stock Injectors, But I have a set of 1150's sitting around with my turbo kit/AEMEMS. Im new to the import scene and grew up when it was basically bolt things on, or toss on a big supercharger (carb systems). Ill run out there and plug in my wbo2, and give it a go right quick, have to run to the store to grab a 10mm hex thats shorter than the one I have now, bung-plug is in there like swimwear. (24 hour parts store minutes away).

edit: like I said above, It may be the seal on the QTP causing the overly rich smell/feel. But I would rather be safe.

Awe crap, So I connected the power wires really fast, started going through the quick-install guide for the LC-1/XD-16, and what do you know, I get 3 dashes instead of an "E2" like I should, and the guide says check the serial connections! So I did and everything is good, except, that I never got the "terminator plug" but I didnt think it was a big deal as I thought it just plugged the wires, well apparently it must jump 2/3 of the 3 wires together in some sort of fashion, so I cant use it yet.... I have the box still but when I opened it I know there wasnt one as I did an inventory.. Damn.... I have stereo connectors if anyone knows what wires jump together.....
