Mitsu and warranty coverage

For previous evo owners how is mitsu when it comes to warranty coverage and modifications to the car? Say if I do exhaust and suspension work, will this automatically cause a headache when in for service? Are there any common warranty “friendly” mods that usually wont cause any issues? I want to modify the car but not at the expense of losing my warranty.

Thanks

I think it is hit or miss at dealerships. I paid a bit more for mine when I got it but it was also not modded, and only 10K on it. They are fine with intake, exhaust, gauges, stereo, **** like that. They told me no aftermarket BOV or aftermarket clutch. They say they will warranty work done by Turbotrix though (basics though...mbc, tune, etc...)

Depends how good you can get with your dealership and what you are doing. I mean if you install meth, nitrous, or part out the interior, don't expect much help.

what you should do is first visit your local dealer with out your car and ask the service manager or service writer similar questions. And tell them that you are aware that if you, say for example: put a boost controler on and detonate your engine, that you know Mitsubishi wouldnt cover that.

If you handle yourself intelangentlly (I seriously think I mispelled that) then you shouldnt have a problem with getting a dealer to help you out. Show the service guys that you know what you are talking about, you know your car, and that you know what your modification do and I am sure you will be fine with most of your warranty.

In addition, two more pieces of advice:

1) If you do something to your car that probably caused an issue (put on aftermarket springs and it killed one of your struts; aftermarket clutch and fried your transfer case; were drag racing your stock car and fried your transfer case), own up to it - if you take it into the dealership tell them upfront what happened. If they have descretion in the matter, they might just give you the benefit of the doubt.

2) If what failed could not have been caused by a modification to the car, have the dealership document in writing how they believe the mod in question _caused_ the problem. Then you can bone up on Magnuson Moss...

Honestly, the only way to guarantee warranty coverage is by not modifying. It kinda sucks, but that's what I've done and it has worked so far.

Even then you run into the problem with the "abuse" claim.

Mitsubishi has annoying warranty policies. I had a Eclipse and put an CAI on it. Went for routine maintenance, the mechanic said that I need to lose my intake or lose my warranty . At least he forewarned me. So I wouldn't be surprised if it's just as bad for the Evo.

some simple advice if you even drive your car mitsu voids your warranty so your already screwed.

If you don't want to be super screwed put it as much back to stock as possible ex: put stock intake back on , take of your mbc, w/e you can get off do it.

Some mods that should be ok with most dealers

Window Tint.
Cat Back Exhaust section (check).
Drop-in performance air filter (K&N, Works).
Tires & Wheels maybe.

Given i am not an evo but i know mits and i think it just depends on your location and the dealership.

i read the clutch would void well with my dealership it wont so long as they put it in, that sux for those of us who are DIY types but before you buy just ask it never hurts. and if they say it will void ask if the warranty will remain if they install the part.
