friends car jerks

hey all I was woundering if it was normal for my friends car he has an 07 SI and when he down shifts it jerks kind of violently i was woundering if that was normal for a stick shift car? if it isnt what kind of problems could it case?

lol =b how about in my 07 camry it has techtronic shift 1-6 gears and i think it acts the same as a stick shift? even though it isnt? like downshifting accelerating etc?

Hi there, I didn't really understand this follow-up question.

Your friend's car jerks when downshifting because he doesn't know how to balance the clutch with the engine speed. Most normal manual drivers will at least slowly let off the clutch when downshifting to avoid such jerks (I suspect you also hear a ton of whine when he downshifts). Advanced manual drivers are able to use rev matching to further avoid the jerking and this technique is also great for preserving the moving parts (ie clutch).

Any automatic/techtronic car does not have to worry about these things because that's the beauty/boring nature of such systems. Shift away in your Camry and know that your friend needs to practice driving better asap.

tell him to check si webistes for similar problems. I know that there is a major tranny issue with the new SIs.

Sounds like driver to me from abuse and probably soon will be a shot tranny and clutch

tell your friend to learn how to drive stick before jumping in the car and downshifting like theres no tomorrow. oh and also call him a noob.

lol i think its his first car and i know he already burned thru 1 clutch and a few days back we got to class and it smelled like burning when we got out =c

is there a site where i can learn proper advanced shiftage? i can drive a stick w/o stalling so im not a super noob
