Thanks Mitsubishi

I just want to give thanks to the Mitsu engineers for deciding to use 600 self taping screws on the undertray. I cannot tell you the joy of spending hours on my back trying to pry these delightful soft plastic screws off. Or getting halfway through and being " ah **** it. I'll just get buttraped and have a shop install the pipe. " lol

Wow that blows didn't even take me 10 minutes to pull the undertray off

Edit:

While I'm writing let me say what i used were three tools, Philips to get it started, needle nose to yank it out, and a flathead screw driver in case i got pissed.

If they are in good shape, it's pretty simple ...

Back out the screw about 1/2" and then pull ...

Flat head can be used to slide under the outside of the clip and apply pressure toward the head of the screw it it doesn't want to back out ...

I used a philips but the screws are so soft that they deform with little pressure. Needle nose pliers seem to be the answer...

you do have to have a light touch ... you can't really push in on the screws as they'll just slide right back in to the clip. thats actually the correct way to re-install them if you weren't aware ... put the clip in the hole and just push the screw in.

Those craptastic fasteners aren't self-tapping, but they sure are a pain in the *** and cheap as hell. It's like a lottery hoping when you try to unscrew them that the screw part either doesn't deform where the screwdriver fits, or that they will actually screw out enough so you can pull the whole fastener out of the hole. I prayed that the same craptastic things weren't on my Evo having dealt with them for years on my various DSMs and cried a little the first time I got under the front end. *shakes fist*

If you can get behind the pin and push it out it makes it easier. I took my undertray off twice and then it stayed off. I have the Beatrush now. I would imagine you can convert the stock to bolt up like the Beatrush with bolts and threaded clips. Hardware stores have them. Makes life easier.

Well what i did is start on one side so i could get my hands over the cover then used the flat head of the screw driver to push the screws out if they were stubborn. You do need to get a few of them off the right way before you can begin though

+10000 on the needle nose! Went to Kragen and bought a pair took me less than a min for each clip I felt like superman! even the badly deformed clips came out with ease. avoided getting buttraped for LICP install also hairspray worked like MAGIC for the pipe-to-hose
