Evo IX for sale

Hey guys,

I've always been a huge fan of the Evos, and with the changes in import restrictions in Canada, I can finally get one! I've been looking around all over the states for one, and I came across this one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-...3756.m14.l1308

It's exactly what I want (EVO IX in blue) plus, it has some decent mods. I called the guy, and he seemed very knowledgable and helpful in regards to the car and evos in genereal.

I was wondering if you guys had any opinions or tips regarding the car.

Also, I know it's certainly been discussed elsewhere, so would someone be able to direct me to a thread that compares the advantages/disadvantages to the 8 vs. 9? I see no real disadvantages to the 9 over the 8, yet a mechanic/hardcore tuner friend of mine is hell bent on getting an 8 over a 9, and I can't seem to figure out why....

Thank you guys very much. I just recently joined the forum, and you have all been very helpful.

-Devan

I honestly can't find a reason why your friend would be hell bent on you finding an 8 over a 9. Stage 1 mods will gain you more power on a 9 while at a slightly smaller cost. The 9 has a slightly larger turbo and improved cooling in the heads, as well as the MIVEC for slightly better spool. I guess an 8 will respond to cams better but really thats just a testiment to how well 9 cams are. The 8 has a longer 4th gear which is good for the strip should you choose to do that, so +1 there. But, the 9 has a slightly better looking interior IMO. Overall, they are almost identical cars, however there is a reason calls one and 8 and one a 9

Thanks guys, I really appreciate the help!

The price is pretty good, ecxept for the 18.5% extra taxes! (Stupid Duty). I just got a call from the bank, and my load went through, so here we go!

Also, it's my friend who wants the 8 for himself. I don't know why either, but he also has an 11 second S4 and and 11 second MK3 Golf, so I tend not to question his mechanical prowess. This one still confuses me though....

Congrats and All the BEST! You have a very nice choice. Just be careful since it's used, but I think you'll be just fine if you did all the research on the car.

I'm pretty excited...

It's at AMS in Chicago right now getting an Exedy clutch put in.
The mods all seem well done, with 2 exceptions; 1) I called and talked to AMS, and they seem to think that the aftermarket Intercooler is from E-bay. and 2) It has a BOV, which I hear (and read) isn't great for these cars.

I am glad that it's getting a new, stronger clutch though, and I'm also going to get them to tune it before they ship it out here.

Everything else seems great, so we'll see when I get it! I can't wait! Unfortunately, getting it tuned means that I'll have to wait a couple extra days, but I figure it's worth it.
