Evo maintenance? (important)

Hi,

I was wondering what is the regular maintenance cost on an Evo IX GSR?

Yes, I know that brake pads are more expensive, as well as rotors, requires synthetic oil, premium gas, maybe a clutch every now and then (driver has control over that), tires are more expensive also.

I guess what I'm trying to say, is that I knew this guy who had an evo and he said that he had to take his evo like a couple of times a year for some type of turbo check ups or something like that. Is this true or was the dealer just ripping him off (it was a Mitsubishi dealer)?

I know that modding an evo is a money pit, but I'm not talking about that. Also assume that this car would be driven nicely not as hard as others.

Is the evo reliable when taken care of?

Thanks.

any car u take care of can be reliable.

regular maintenance sure is more expensive than most cars, but not more than u can handle or on the level of BMW's and Benz which have ridiculously high repair costs.

you pay to play man. high performance= high price

not sure on that turbo check up...never heard of that one before..you could actually just check that yourself its so easy

"Turbo check up," might be a term he made up. Besides the items you listed, boost leak checks must be periodically performed by pressurizing the intake pipes with an air compressor. A pinhole air leak will throw off the mass air flow sensor and adversely affect performance. To answer your question, yes, an Evo can be reliable when cared for. Doesn't mean you can drive the car like you stole it 365 days of the year and expect it to run like a champ.

Maintenance prices can vary. Your local, i'd suggest visiting RoadRaceEngineering.com. Great race/fabricating/parts shop catering to DSMs and Evos. I go there for major maintenance work i can't handle in my garage.

Thanks, I'll definitely give roadraceengineering.com a look. If anything I would need a reliable place to take it.
