Newbie question about tuning

I've seen lots of thread talking about tunning a car and ECUflash?

Can anyone tell me about what are they? when do we need a tune?
I saw some threads talk about AP and maps.... totally lost when I read those threads.

Can anyone give me a detail lesson about all there stuff? cz I want to mod my car, but I'll still on the stage of just changing
exhaust and some body parts(Please dun laugh @ me for being so noob, but it's my first car that is worth to mod, lol)

The proper category for this type of question would be here.

Im not familiar with ECUflash, so I will explain with the Access Port.

The access port if a handheld device that plugs into the OBDII port in the car. From the OBDII port it can read codes, read values(engine coolant temperature, rpms, speed, throttle position, etc). It can also reflash the ECU, changing what map the ECU is reading from.

The ECU is the brain of the car, it tells the car(engine) what to do, with information it is given from sensors.

The access port changes(reflashes) the ECU so it will do things different, essentially making power. It makes more power by leaning out the air/fuel ratio, among other things that it does.

On evo X's, you can get a tune when your stock if you'd like, you should gain 20-30whp with an off-the-shelf map(meaning not custom). It is recommended you tune after most mods, and you should have the correct map for the mods on your car. although i feel you really dont NEED a tune until you do basic bolt ons(exhaust, intake, intercooler piping, etc), lots will disagree. doesnt hurt to get a tune though.

This may have made more questions then answers, but I hope I helped.
