Wideband sensor install

I've been thinking about buying a Wideband O2 gauge. This has probably been covered a lot, and after searching a bit, I didn't find a definite answer.
I want to install the sensor in the testpipe bung instead of the downpipe. Some people say it has to be in the downpipe, some say 24 inches from the turbo. There's a how-to but the sensor is in the downpipe.
I just want to know if anyone actually put it in the test pipe bung and it's working fine.
Thank you.
