First oil change..

Doing my first oil change for the EVO tomorrow morning and I was wondering two things:

Do you guys feel there is a significant reason or reasons to get the OEM filter over a brand you can get at Autozone or NAPA, like K&N or Bosch or something?

How much oil do you guys typically use to refill the engine? I'm going to buy one of those 5 gallon jugs of Mobil 1 10w30, but should I get an extra quart?

I know it's a super newb question, and yes I've changed oil on many many vehicles, just looking for some input! Thanks!

I think the book only says 4.9 qts. You shouldn't need an additional qt. I would go with the stock filter. From my local dealer, they're actually cheaper than a fram filter from walmart! I also think the filter has to be rated to a certain PSI, which the stock filter is. Also, you're gonna need a new crush ring for the oil drain plug, which you can get at the dealer. I would recommend going stock filter/crush ring.

I usually do 4.75q-ish because some of the oil stays in the oil cooler. 5q is definitely enough

The shop that I go to when I am feeling lazy puts in the full 5, it is a little above the mark on the dip stick, but they know evos very well and said that it helps if you track it to have a little extra

Full 5 quarts, an extra quart that stays in the trunk (you never know), and the bosch filter.
Haven't had cause to replace the crush washer, doesn't drip/leak/ooze from the drain plug, and its been that way since I bought the car two years ago. I don't think the previous owner replaced the crush washer.. ever, and I don't replace them on my volvos either. Never had a problem (altho, if you're paranoid, it certainly can't hurt)

Thanks for the input guys, 4.80 qts put me at the right level. I used to work at a shop with lifts, so I made quick work of it this morning when they let me in before they opened.
