Is this a good deal...

My brother is thinking of getting an 05 Evo 8 with 55,600 miles, the dealer is offering a 3 yr warranty for $2400, bumper to bumper. I think its kinda steep.

dont do it, save your money. Make sure you thoroughly check out the car's condition. Carfax, have someone look over it, etc. Buyer beware.

05s from factory come with 100k miles warranty, and regardless the minute he drives the car off the lot the warranty is gone.

Yeah, I haven't gone to check it out yet with my bro, he went by himself. Said the IC piping, BOV, and intake is aftermarket. I'm a skeptic when looking at modded cars, thankfully I got my X new. Do all 05's come w/ the 100k?

I know what voids a warranty, I just don't want him to get screwed having to pay out of pocket for AC repair or something. What I don't know is the 8's reliability beyond 5 years.

Paying for a warranty is always a scam. They will never honor anything. Some have things in there like all repairs and maintenance must be performed and documented by an ASE certified mechanic, even oil changes. It's modded and I'm sure it says in there that if it's modded that the warranty is void but they won't tell you this until after you hand them the money.

Forget their warranty and create a savings account for future mechanical repairs.

Stearlerships will always try to find a way to void warranties when they see mods. What I have found, is that this community is pretty knowledgeable & willing to help out fellows for way cheaper than a dealership. Find a good shop or a good friend who knows what they are doing & save your money.
