New evo buyer with question

Hi everyone, I'm a new and currently in the market for an Evo. Currently I'm considering the IX, but after going through the forum. I've came up with a question that I just can't seem to decide for myself. Which would be a better, more reasonable buy? an Evo 9 or 8. I've been looking around and the cost difference between a 9 and 8 on average is about 4-5g. I know the only major difference in the 2 is the 9 have Mivec. I am looking for a virgin bone stock so i can start modding myself. The car will be modded with full bolts-on for the first 2 yrs. then the motor will be built to company a new 35r turbo.

With that being said, which would be better? a fully built 9-mevic or a fully built 8 (same 35r)

I'm sorry if this is a newbe question.

If you are looking for a bone stock EVO and planning on building it big... save $4-5k and get an VIII. My $0.02

I think once you get into the larger turbo's and built motors, Mivec wont make much of a difference. If your plan is to fully build the motor and go with a bigger turbo, I'd just buy an Evo 8 if you dont mind the differences in appearance between the Evo 8 and 9 as well.

The major differences will be basically none when comparing an 05 Evo 8 and 06 Evo 9.

i would recommend you get an 05 VIII, they're nearly identical as the 06 IX, but not as cheap as 03 or 04. Problem with 03 and 04 is that you'll have a very hard time finding stock and they'll have tons of miles on it

variable valve timing.
"varies the timing, lift and duration of the valves by using two different camshaft profiles.[2] At low speeds, a mild (low-lift) cam lobe provides stable idle, lower emissions and increased torque at lower speeds, while above a fixed engine speed a second set of cam lobes are activated, providing higher lift and duration; therefore a greater quantity of air into the combustion chamber which increases the power and torque output over a broad engine speed range." -Wikipedia

I agree, Mivec won't make that "much" of a difference comparing a built motor (same build w/ or w/o mivec). But I like to know How much of a difference exactly. comparing a fully build head (same cams and everything) but with mivec controlling I would think the mevic motor will win of the two.

Also, you only have Mivec on one of the cams just so you know. They decided to use Mivec on both cams on the X.
