Need help choosing an exhaust!

Now, I've been researching different exhaust setups for my bone stock IX, and I had it narrowed down to a TurboXS turboback system, until I saw that it was a little slanted. Here's my problem: I live in California and the exhaust can't be too loud, and I don't want a slanted exhaust setup. I also am not planning on getting a JDM rear bumper anytime soon if that matters. Any suggestions?

I just went through the process of choosing an exhaust. What I did was i came up with a set of standards I wanted in an exhaust.

I came up with wanting an exhaust that:

1. is full 3 inches (no taper)
2. has o2 bung (i have an evo 8)
3. no resonator
4. uses stock hangers

I ended up getting a Turbo XS cat-back. It has a resonator but I decided I can live with that. Unfortunately the mid-pipe they sent me was for an Evo X not an Evo 8 so I haven't installed it yet.

I agree with your 1 and 4. Don't think 2 applies to me, but if I'm wrong please correct me . Also, I probably wouldn't mind sticking to a cat-back if that's what it takes, mainly because of the emissions and the cops in CA lol

Yeah the JDM rear bumper does matter. I got the greddy Ti-C exhaust for my evo and on the oem rear bumper it was about .25 inches behind the rear bumper's exhaust outlet. When I got my jdm rear bumper, the exhaust stuck out 2-3 inches.

So with the Greddy Ti-C, would you say that it looked pretty close to stock in terms of placement? I've only heard a few clips of the catback on YouTube and it seemed pretty loud haha

Your o2 bung will be on the cat since you have an Evo IX. I think you'll be able to get a full turbo back you'll just want to make sure you get a hi-flow cat not a test pipe. You should try to find out what other Evo owners in CA have done.

Have you looked at the Exhaust Thread?

I believe the Greddy Ti-C is the catback and it tapers down to 2.5 to meet the cat.

The Greddy Competition Ti-C is the full turbo-back and it is full 3 inches the whole way. However I believe this exhaust has a longer downpipe and there is no space for a cat.

Yeah, I searched out a couple brands and maybe I'm just really picky or they weren't the greatest pics/videos, but I kept finding something I didn't like about them. That's why I made this topic, because there's no doubt you guys know a ton more about Evo exhausts than I do so why not make use of a good resource? Plus, I was searching for over an hour just now

Hmm, was just looking at the Greddy catback, and I do like the sound and look. Its not slanted and it doesn't seem overly loud, but that would probably change if I got a downpipe and possibly a test pipe lol

Yeah, I'm probably gonna keep the stock cat on there regardless of what setup I choose because my Evo is my daily. Don't need to be pulled over/harassed all the time lol

I have the mil.spec 100 cell cat, and it's not any louder than stock as far as I can tell. as for the exhaust, if you're worried about it fitting with the JDM rear, order the JDM version of the exhaust. that's what I should have done when I got my HKS carbon TI. I just recently had 2.5" cut from the piping to fit it to the JDM rear.
