Break in

Could you let us brothers in for some of ya break in secrets? I know there 2 schools of thoughts: a) break in with mineral oil, drive as hard as you want your car to be in the future within the first few miles, then change oil at ~100miles, repeat...change oil at ~1000miles, then switch to fully synthetic; b) follow the O.E.M. manual, stay below 4k rpm until 1k miles, change oil, then progressively increase rpm.

But I honestly don't know which way to go.... ....O, congrats on your new EVO...!!

Well, after lurking here for many months I finally took the plunge and got a red Evo last night.
Bob Baker Mitsu in Carlsbad, CA is knocking $2000 off the MSRP on the 2003 models, so I got a sweet deal AND I unloaded my 17 year-old Son's beat up Honda Civic as a bonus. He made out like a bandit, as I passed my modified 2002 Acura RSX down to him, so we both have grins from ear to ear this morning.
Over the past few months I drove 3 different Evos at the dealer and there was a noticible difference in the performance of them. I am happy to say that the red one I settled on was also the fastest of the 3. The car had 13 miles on it when I bought it and now only has 31 but I am already so hooked on it that I couldn't sleep last night.
Anyway, I just wanted to introduce myself (Steve Fredericks, Oceanside,CA, 43, U.S. Marine) and say that I will become a regular poster here now.
That is an awesome story. I hope your son is responsible enough at 17 to handle a sporty car. Being a Marine I'll bet you've disciplined him well. =)

Enjoy the Evo and congrats on a good deal!

No problem, he has been racing both drag and autocross regularly for 1 1/2 years now and is a pretty darn good driver. It is very cool to spend a night drag racing head to head against your Son.
