Motor identification?

i am looking to purchase a 4g63 out of an evo. (jdm motor) and i have been looking at all the different ones and was wondering how u can tell the difference from if it came out of like and evo 7 or 8 or 9? i know the early 4g63 have a different valve cover then the new ones. and i believe the 9's have mivec on the valve cover? but i am not sure. so any advice will be appreciated.

thanks,
Josh

Evo IV motors are know to be the most susceptible to crankwalk, so they are not the favorite choice of a base to start with.
