It all depends on what his priorities are. If he wants performance to get up to 400, 500 hp with full race suspension and such, evo is the answer because bang for buck performance on our cars is much better than the WRX.

If its a daily driver for some spirited driving, needs trunk space for utility and 300whp is all he needs, i'd recommend the WRX hatch. a NEW WRX hatch with minor bolt ons + tune WILL keep up with a STOCK evo X (thanks to a ****ty stock tune and such). Add bolt ons to the Evo X + tune and the wrx has no chance. The WRX however will not take big power upgrades very well because AFAIK, their 5 speed transmissions still suck and can't take more than 350whp... so if your friend wants more than that he has to swap to the STI 6 speed.

If you want a daily driver, go with the WRX. Better gas mileage, smoother ride.

If you want performance, go with the EVO. A litte less refined, but a heck of a lot of fun.

If your driving the car to commute everyday, the novelty of an EVO wears off and you start to notice the little annoying things (notchy gearbox, freeway drone, poor MPG).

In my case I went into it knowing that this car was my play car. And I have never been happier with a vehicle.

Why not just buy a slightly used STI? I had an STI(06') and loved it. While the Evo has much more potential, the STI is still a good car. I've driven the new WRX and it is not even in the same league in terms of handling and braking etc, not as cool of an interior(can't beat the recaros and steering wheel), and is still just a WRX. If you're looking for a performance car buy the Evo, if you're looking for a DD with a bit of get up and go, get the WRX.

so true - the '07 Sti has quite possibly the best transmission out of all of them. I remember always talking in my Subaru "group" about how everyone wanted an '07 Sti 6 speed into our WRX's and what not.

I'll be honest - I loved my WRX but this Evo out does it in every single aspect except for the low tone exhaust. The Evo has a great sounding exhaust, don't get me wrong, but the Subaru rumble is just so amazing.

The problem(s) with asking a question like this on a forum is:
#1 - like has been said before - it's an EVO forum, haha
#2 - it is all about personal preference and what you want in your car - we can't decide for you. someone can tell you all day how the Evo is better, can take mods better and what not - but if you like the WRX (get the Sti if you go Subaru!) then no matter what anyone says you'll go for it.

Which is overshadowed by a horrible factory tune and ringland issues.

For the price, a brand spankin new car is hard to beat.

Back in december i was in your shoes except looking for an STi or an Evo. The evo is so much cheaper price wise than an sti its laughable. I got a '10 Evo with 3k miles for 27k every STi in the tristate (including DE,MD, and PA) that was 27-28k had 30k+ miles on '08's, or some '08"s had lower mileage but were clearly modded (intake exhaust, stupid other Sh*t). I love the Hatch its aggressive AND functional. Our trunk is a joke but still fits a medium grocery shop, 3-4 medium sized duffle bags, most things i would put in the trunk aside from my bike.

I love my evo don't get me wrong, but at the time if there was an STi that met my standards and was in my range, I'd be on Nasioc or iwsti right now not posting this. lol

who gives a **** about the trunk space?

if you need a roadtrip car, then get a roadtrip car..

if you need a utility - then get one..

the evo is a drivers car...

wrx = meh, why bother? for a bit more you get a ****LOAD more car with an evo...
