Any Evo owner should know this

But i don't know for sure! Is the Evo DSM or JDM? Maybe it varies by which generation of evo? I've been doing some searching on it, and it seems like its debatable. I know the 3000gt i use to have was JDM, but most thought it was DSM. I know the 4g63 was used in some DSM's, but theres more to the car than the motor. Anybody able to shed some light on this for me?

Well first off there really is nothing over here that is JDM unless it is shipped directly off of Japan soil. That is all just a gimick to make more money and infringe on the delights of Japan. Most of the manufacturers over here have domesticated the designs of the cars and had them built in North-America.

In Japan that is the real Jdm right hand drive everything the works. Some people even go as far as to domesticate an actual car from japan and ship it over-seas to the United States or to wherever they desire. We have japan cars but they are domesticated and made in the United States

Youre from usa, youre probible going to run usa companies parts and finnally the US builders build much much more powerful evos than other parts of the world. The EVO is indeed from japan and built there but lets save all this homo "JDM" talk for the honda acura kids. There isnt much thats Domestic about a Larger turbo or a twin plate clutch. There isnt much thats from japan on most of the fastest evos in the world.

JDM= White paint, yellow lights, super expensive, all done at low speeds.

Women like fast cars they dont care what kind or where the parts came from. The only people youre aplealing to by saying JDM are white young males from the burbs who drive honda junk.

Alright. So it's built in japan. But not jdm because it is domesticated. It wouldn't be DSM because it is not built in America right? I don't much care about stereotyping jdm and dsm or what the women would be impressed to hear, I just want to know this Information so when the Honda an or Acura teens think it's a dsm, I know what to say.

Um, one big hint that probably every Evo, 3000GT, etc, that you've seen is *not* JDM is the fact that the steering wheel is on the left.

All evos are built in japan, but why say anything? Just shrug your shoulders, go win, then go away smiling.

Only the first 2 gen eclipses, egal talons and the dodge laser are DSM's being as DSM stands for Dimond Star Motors thus covering the dimond and the star logos of both Mitsu and Chrysler. At the time when these three cars were made both companies were in a partnership and worked together to make these cars. Where as when Mitsu made the Evo's it was soley a Mitsu production. While the DSM's do use a older version of the 4G63 this does not make the Evo a DSM

Both the six- and seven-bolt 4G63s were built in Japan and shipped to Normal, Illinois, to be installed in the 1st- and 2nd-gen DSMs. By the rather silly rules that define whether a car is foreign or domestic, this wasn't enough to make the DSM a foreign car. It was classified as domestic for US gov't purposes.

Evos, in contrast, have always been completely built in Japan. If they're building it for North America or most of Europe, they make it left-hand drive. If it's for Japan or the UK, they build it right-hand drive. Either way, to us it's a foreign-made car, just as the quote/unquote 3rd-gen "DSMs" were.

Sounds like OP is just getting lost in nomenclature. If it makes the OP feel any better my g/f's 2004 Chrysler Sebring has quite a bit of Mitsubishi in it. In fact it has Mitsu branding all over the engine bay.

Idk how your gf's Chrystler having Mitsu parts would make me feel better, lol. But I do appreciate the info and understand the situation alot better now. I was aware the evo was built in the japan and the definition of DSM. But just needed a better understanding of the situation which you guys helped clarify. Appreciate it!

**Edited**

JDM(Japanese Domestic Market) is a car built to be used in Japan, same for USDM. Where it is built doesn't **Correction** does matter. It must be built and used in that country. JDM=built in and for Japan, USDM=built in and for the US, same for EDM=in and for Europe

(I should resist the temptation to post, since this in the internet and a car-related web-site to boot, so this isn't going to end well, but....)

No. What country the car was built in is central to the terms JDM and USDM. You seem to be ignoring what the word "domestic" means. "Domestic" means that the object wasn't imported, so JDM means not only built for the Japanese market, but built in Japan, as well.

Now, I'll grant you that people abuse the term JDM quite often. They are even consistent in said abuse. But most of these abusers drive Honduhs and we're a tad above that, yes?
