My Evo Story
Hey man, we all wanted one when were young...but I think what helps us appreciate and take care of these powerful machines is the respect and patience we've earned as we got older. I hate to be a preachy prophet here, but I promise you you'll wreck it in your first year, possibly totalling it. I urge you, to get training on precision driving, accident avoidance, and above all, self-control. Its not just a car bro, it's a way of life, and you have to respect it or it will kill you.
I bought my evo when I was 27, now almost 29, never been in an accident with it, and haven't broken anything i couldn't fix at home. Start with a Honda bud, you'll save yourself the heart-ache, and possible personal physical injury, not to mention thousands of dollars in attorneys fee's and court costs when you do, I repeat, when you DO get caught for effing around in it.
Take my advice whichever way you please, I know i didn't listen to my parents when I was your age either, but back then the Evo 5/6 wasn't even imported over here, so I was like, well, better bide my time with a p.o.s. Glad I did, because this car is everything I had hoped it would be, and someone will have to pry it from my cold dead fingers.
Hate to be a downer dude, and without knowing you or your driving habits, I do know how 19yr old males drive.... Personally, I'd learn that self-control now, and maybe come back to the dealers table when you've had time to get in touch with what you'll need to have once the keys are in hand.
Good luck, and godspeed, in any case.

I had a 600 whp 2002 C5 Corvette when I was 20 and didn't wreck it and it was far more of a handful than most Evo's. I'm 26 now and have not wrecked any of my cars, the one car in my list under my avatar that is "wrecked" is my Mustang and a lady hit me. I say go for it OP, you seem responsible enough to know you can easily kill someone else or yourself if you drive like an *** hat.
Bad post is bad, seriously, you know he's going to wreck it?

i perfectly understand where Oface is coming from but the thing is depends on who owns and drives the car who gets in the wreck :P
but yeah follow your dreams and accomplish it
then you will succeed!

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm itching more than a crackhead to get inside an evo!
Congrats and good luck man. I envy all you young guys that got into evos at 19 and 20... I didn't get mine until I was 30! My first car my parents paid for was an 89' Chrysler LeBaron. You should be fine. They're amazing cars but, It's not like it's a Z06 that's a pain in the a$$ to control.
Didnt get my Evo till i was 32, but I remember when was in college, there was a Mitsu dealership near the college that i used to drive to and they had a WW 03 Evo VIII sitting in the showroom I used to drive to that Dealership and peer in the window and just look in awe of that car. I was big into DSM's and I had and still have an Eclipse GSX, but the DSM couldnt hold a candle to the Evo.
OP: if you have the means to get it I say go for it, just be careful and responsible as an Evo is not a toy, and Niether was my Capri, if you know what I'm saying. To the gentleman who said he shouldnt get one: I see what your saying but dont bust the kids bubble. All you gotta do is be careful. good luck whatever way you go.

Hey bro don't listen about all this stuff about wrecking ur car and taking classes.I bought my evo when I was 19 and I am now 23. My car has never been wrecked or anything that wasn't easy to fix. With your passion about this car it sounds like u will baby it which is good.my advice to you though is save the racing for the track.the last thing you would ever want is to invest 23k into a car and see it totaled. Well good luck with everything and if u have any questions about tuning or problems just shoot me a message.
^ I honestly do not understand how someone can do that, you have to be incredibly bad at driving or very stupid or a combo of both. What was he doing trying to enter a 90 degree turn into a neighborhood at 70mph, cause other than that I don't know how you loose control.
I don't understand why people are saying "look out, you'll wreck the Evo." The easiest car I've ever driven was the Evo... I'm easily more dangerous in the MINI and in the old S2000 than I was in any of my AWD point-and-shoot easy-to-drive cars. You can drive an Evo with your eyes closed and one finger on the steering wheel and still not get in an accident.

So I heard from reviews and some friends, I can't imagine how it feels to be so in sync with your vehicle.
Just an update: Going to tomorrow to look at 2 evos:
1st: 06 EB IX with 30k miles on it. It's listed at 26k, which is too high for me, KBB has it for 27k, edmunds and NADA have it for 21-22 ish, I'm gonna try and haggle my *** off
2nd: 03 TB VIII with 48k listed for 21.5, I think its way too high. KBB is 20, edmunds and NADA have it close 16k. Much easier financially, however, I love the Electric blue color. So, I'm kind of torn...
What should I be paying for these 2 cars in your guy's opinion? (Both from a dealer)

Coming from a FWD GTI with 260HP,260+TQ Tuned and E92M3 with 400 HP+ in rear wheels I'm finally happy to drive a car where all four wheels can handle the power! Not to mention how quickly I shreded the tires on the M3 when I was tracking it

In the EVO I can carry a lot more speed(anywhere from 8~15MPH+) into a corner when compared with a FWD/RWD car and get on the power a lot sooner
Well I paid 16.8 for my 8 back in Nov with 61k on it. U might be able to get the 03 down to 19 or 18. Good luck man. U'll enjoy it. Don't rush it though. If those 2 r junk, don't just settle.
How is the 03 holding up? What special things do you look for when searching, besides obvious things like 5th gear grind, t-case death whine and previous modifications
Just got back from looking at cars. They both looked sketchy, beaten up and abused so I pulled the plug
However, I got the go-ahead to now start looking at private sellers, so as soon as I get 15 posts, I'll start looking for evo's in the Philadelphia, tristate area.
