do I dare? urgent help needed
Ok, I have wanted an EVO for years and have cash in hand, ready to buy.
However, there are no EVO specialists anywhere near where I live in Fargo, ND (want a lifted 4x4? We got all the experts you could possibly want.) We do have a Mitsubishi dealership at least.
I have a decent IX picked out, it is not the RS that I really want, but it seems like a straight car, almost stock, the seller seems knowledgeable. I am about to buy a plane ticket.
But with no EVO specialist on hand, and no place to work on it myself (and my wrenching skills frankly syuck), should I just give up and buy a Camry or something I can at least get serviced around here?

The dealership would be fine for service visits for a stock or even slightly modded evo... It's when you get into modding your evo that an evo specialist would truly benefit your evo's upgrades and help you plan future upgrades or even diagnose issues a dealership would not know to look for (if modded)....there are mail in flashes etc you could look into but you would maximize your gains with someone actually tuning your car on a dyno vs. sending you a base tune for basic bolt ons....
This is soley my opinion on your question/concern.....
Hope it helps!
Do a google search to see how far away reputable shops are from you......

Also keep in mind there is a plethora of information on this forum board with plenty of detailed write ups with pictures etc so you could work on the car confidently yourself. If its something that you dont feel you are skilled enough to do, then seek the dealership or a shop that is relatively close.
Also, Im sure there are memebers on this forum that live near you that may be willing to help a fellow EvoM'er out (may want beer). lol

The great news is - you are only 3 hrs from the cities, and MAP (Modern Automotive Performance) is located on the west side in Plymouth, MN. PM them and see what services they have available. Good luck from a NDSU Bison Alumni.

Chris: How far is Plymouth from Fargo?
Never mind, I remember looking you up before. It's outside Minneapolis, a 220 mile drive. Better than some, but not exactly what I call "local".

Go ahead and look at the car, call the dealer if you want. The car is sitting in front of my place now, and it needs a bath.
I drove it home all the way from Denver last night, blastin countree music and looking for cops in order to keep myself awake.
It turned out to be a pretty clean and straight car, 98% stock, does the things evos are supposed to do. Price was fair, so I bought it.

Seats are a suede-like material, for whatever it is worth. Wheels are a bit scungy and dinged, and they are one thing I plan to replace.
