Evo IX Gsr and mr
mr has the bbs rims, 6 speed, pretty much just cosmetic differences, as well as the suspension being better...
the 6 speed is definitely weaker than the 5 but if you dont plan on going over 400awhp im sure youll be just fine... ill be getting an MR when i tire of my 8

timasse. Welcome.
This whole "weaker" transmission thing needs to be revamped.
The 6 speed transmission is NOT weaker. It handles the car just fine. It IS however weaker when you're talking about making a ridiculous amount of HP, and using a transmission designed for a road car.
Think about how many road cars are out there, with AWD drivetrains that are making a crazy amount of HP. Think about how they're made? We're talking Nissan GTRs (made in a hermetically sealed chamber by hand) Porsches, Audis, BMWs... etc. These cars cost much more than the Evo, and are probably driven MUCH less hard.
My point is simply that the 6 speed is in fact weaker, if you're trying to use it in a manner other than directed. The parts are smaller because theres more of them in the same space as a 5 speed. But when people say "don't get the 6 speed, it's weaker" what they really mean is... if you're trying to build the motor, and you don't want to build your transmission (MAYBE) then go 5-speed. But then you look at the shear number of people who say they've blown their transfer cases, and you have to wonder who the people are that are blowing the 6-speeds up, and how they're using their cars.
Anyway. The difference between the USDM EVO IX GSR and MR are:
1. MR uses a 6-speed.
2. MR uses Bilstein suspension
3. MR uses a vortex generator
4. MR uses an Aluminum roof (can't use a roof rack)
5. MR comes with forged BBS wheels
6. MR comes with an optional gauge pack
7. MR comes with HID xenon headlamps
8. MR had an option for an additional "gurney flap" added to the spoiler
I think that's it. There's a good amount of this info on the wiki btw.

5 speed way better and stronger then the 6 speed, mr trannys gears are thinner the the 5 speed big reason why so weak. like a previous member said if your not planning on going 400+ hp then you'll be fine but still heard of people with the 6 speed blowing there trannys cuz it couldn't take tracking and all kinds of racing.
There's no such thing as a USDM IX GSR. It was just the regular IX.

9. MR has brake air guides on the front brakes
10. MR has an additional air dam under the front bumper as part of the Zero Lift Kit
All this noise about the 6 speed being weak is nonsense. The lower gears in the 6 speed are actually stronger than the 5 speed. The 6 speed has issues when road racing because of the heat. The casing for the 5 and 6 speed are the same size, but the 6 has an extra gear so it can't hold as much fluid, and doesn't handle heat as well. 4th gear is usually the one to go in the 6 speed after hard road course use.
The 6 speed is a good transmission. I put 182,000 miles on my first one, and the new owner has over 200,000 miles, and 500whp on the original 6 speed with zero issues. I currently have around 95,000 miles on the MR I have now, and it's having some issues because the previous owner didn't perform the fluid flushes on time, and he couldn't drive.

ty guys again :P
what is vortez generator?
and whats the difference on "normal suspension and bilsteain one?
I guess the rest of differences are very minor...?
Which one should I go for mr or gsr?
