Buying Evo out of state

I am looking at an evo out of state soon and if all goes well I hope to purchase it.

My question is has anyone recently gone through buying an evo out of state and driving it back. Is it possible to do with a temporary registration through NY DMV?

Also, if anyone has recently gone through purchasing an evo through private party and registering it at NY DMV what paperwork do I need?
This is the info I have found so far, as far as paperwork needed.
-Bill of Sale
-Title
-Form DTF-802

Any information helps.

Thanks.

What state are you buying it from? Usually you have to get a temp registration from the state you pick it up. I'm from NY and bought mine in Georgia, that's how we did it. If I did it again, I'd bring the truck and a Uhaul trailer. Do you have access to those? Uhaul is $80 a day if you have a truck with a proper hitch.

Missouri. I may just have it shipped, but if all works out with the car I wanted to have it weekend of mothers day.

Well make sure you test drive it at least. Only way I'd personally ship a vehicle I'm buying is on the back of my own truck with me as a driver and I'd take a compression test and or leak down test. Also consider datalogging it, if you're not familiar with that, download Evoscan, buy a tactrix cable, scan it and send the files to a reputable tuner (TSComptuned) or maybe someone you trust and they'll shed some light on the cars condition tune wise. If someone knows they have a solid car, they should allow you to do all that. If I could go back, that's what I'd do anyway. I'm not sure about Missouri laws and I bought my car 6 years ago so maybe NY laws are different now too idk. Call the dmv.

I picked up my evo from Indiana back in November. I live in Ohio. The previous owner was nice enough to let me drive back on his plates. We had a purchase agreement all written up and signed in case I ran into any trouble with police on the way back. We just mailed his plate back after we got it home. As far as NY laws go, I'm in the dark haha. Good luck on your search.

I actually bought my Evo in NY and live in CT. This is basically how it worked:

Since I lived out of state, they had to go by MY sales tax. So they pretty much figured out how much I would have to pay at the DMV when I went to register my car. I put insurance on it and actually drove back on a dealer plate. I had the dealer plate on my car for about 3 weeks. The dealership then sent me two checks. One for the sales tax and one for the registration in CT. For myself I needed the title, bill of sale, proof of insurance, proof of emissions and who my loan was through. It might be a little different for you though. I couldn't register it without those forms. It actually was a pretty simple process, just took forever waiting for the checks and what not.

I purchased from within NY but I picked it from upstate NY and drove back down to the city. I actualy went this route as well, however, I had already put the car on my insurance when I picked it up. Next day I went to DMV, picked up my plates and shipped the prior owner's back. As far as forms, you're good. Good luck to you!
