Hi guys I recently bought a used Evo Ix and its modded but im not sure of the legality of the parts are for the evo.. Im not trying to have to deal much with the law regarding if the parts on the car is legal or not so I would appreciate it a lot if you can tell me which parts of the modification is illegal in california so I can quickly swap it out. I fell in love with the evo when a friend drove one and always wanted one and now that i finally got it im kinda iffy on some of the modification it has on it=/

From the looks of your mods you should be fine but then again I don't no Cali's rules and hope you enjoy the car

technically, anything other than a catback exhaust, CARB legal intake and bolts is illegal.

Now, what they can't see won't be an issue. Honestly, the main things they lookout for are UICP, intake and test pipe (downpipe for smog as well). These are things that can easily be swapped out, but I would suggest against that since your car is tuned for them. When it comes to smog, find the closest shop to you and just swap those 4 out and cruise around the corner then back again.

My biggest advice would be this: Don't be an idiot and smash on the gas all over town. This will get the attention of cops and evos are natural cop magnets. I've been driving a heavily modified evo 9 for 3 years now in the bay area and I haven't had an issue because I'm smart about it (*knocks on wood*). I still get pulled over occasionally but the past two times this last year was because some idiot ricer tries to impress me with a flyby and cops track down my evo based upon a biased assumption. After talking calmly with them, all things were smoothed out.

Just know this, if you want attention, you will get it. If you don't want attention, you'll still get it occasionally but they very rarely pop your hood.

 

Thanks man i love my evo! I mean i dont plan to drive it over speed limit at all unlesa going to the track. Yah im still new to the whole mod thing but thanks for the heads up about those major parts for smog i wasnt sure much about it and couldnt get help from ppl i know

The car was 25K=) with 44,XXX milage

the dyno papers I got was that on E85 its 421hp to the wheels
