Clutch a user or mechanical problem?

I just test drove an Evo. Fantastic car. But...

Everytime I did a hard, rolling acceleration - say from mid rpms in 2nd or 3rd gear - the clutch burned badly.

Now I'm not an idiot, nor new to HiPo cars - I realize that dumping the clutch at 5,000rpm from a dead stop on an AWD car will fry the clutch.

But all I did was go WOT while rolling along at a pretty good clip. Apparently, even that was enough to burn it.

Is that normal? Can you guys go WOT in 2nd or 3rd without frying the clutch?

Or am I expecting too much, and just have to learn to feather in the power, even while rolling?

The sad thing is, I didn't know about the rumored clutch probs before driving it. First thing I did when I got home was join these forums and search... imagine my surprise to see it's one of the #1 complaints.

What I can't quite figure out though is if the clutch is too weak for the car, or the drivers too demanding of the clutch?
