Looking at an 05 Evo....need help

Hey guys, I found an 05 Evo for $16k locally. My first thought was wow that's a great price. But talking with the seller, I'm getting spooked a little. He says an SES light and an SIR light is on. He had them diagnosed and he says all it needs is a cam sensor and a left front impact sensor. Are these expensive? I'm trying to figure out why he wouldn't just replace them himself. Also, do these 2 codes mean anything else....something more sinister perhaps? Engine knock, previous accidents, etc. He says he's had it for 2 years and no accidents. But again I wonder, why not just replace the sensors?? Any help is appreciated!

Sounds like the car MAY have been in an accident if the front impact sensor needs to be replaced. As far as the cam sensor, that's not really a big deal, as long as it really is just a bad cam sensor & not some other issues. More info on the car would be helpful, miles, mods, etc? I suggest getting a Carfax report done.

why don't you have him take you for a ride and tell him to do some WOT pulls to see how the car behaves.

I would get a little more information on the car if possible. Like stated about, it sounds like it was in an accident. I would run the carfax, then go for a ride and see how the car runs/drives etc.

The craigslist add says its a 2006 EVO IX. For an EVO IX with 89k miles and looks to be in decent shape, $16K is not bad at all.

ok, maybe I'm just used to seeing them much higher in my area. There's a clean 05 MR with the same mileage for $18k. Evos are basically like Lambos here.
