Soon to be Evo Owner NEEDS ADVICE!: IS THIS A GOOD IDEA?

So looking to buy an evo ix ive been searching for a while. Recently a Bmw dealership received one and I called about it. its 61k miles w carfax. Im not worried about the price mainly but this: turns out its last owner was some kid that is a mechanic at bmw, he owned it and apparently he had a rod go right through the engine. The car comes with a lifetime engine warrenty which is really great. The kid had the block replaced with a new one by him at his dealership. The only thing stopping me from buying is, if he possibly beat the bag out of the car and whatever rod shot through the engine and totalled it, Wouldnt that mean that the tranny is probably **** too? Theirs some interstate warrenty that covers it for 2k which is to much for me. But the only thing stopping me form buying is the possibility that the tranny is garbage, the dealership guy claims the lemon law would cover.

Its a MR by the way, which form what i understand have weaker trannies than the 5 speeds, I do want to take the car to the track every once in a while especially w engine warrenty.
But I want to know if the risk is worth buying the car? it looks mint, new block but is the transmission worth the risk? This car is already pretty much maxed out my budget. My farther said he will test the transmission but one could only tell so much from a car theyve never driven. is it worth the risk all advice and help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

It isn't that much to have the tranny built... As for the lifetime warranty on the engine make sure you get it in writing

You probably will not like what I have to say but it is the truth and I hope you hear it.

You said you are already going out on a limb buying an evo.

That right there alone is enough reason for me and any other OG evo guys to tell you not to purchase an evo.

An evo is not a civic and it will cost you a good amount of money per year with just maint not including if something should break.

Lifetime engine warrantee...yea good luck with that one for sure.

Long story short, I tell anyone I know personally that if you do not have around 5k sitting waiting to be used on this car, do not buy one.

You kind of summed it up in your explanation-- if he threw a rod thru the block, hell yeah he beat the crap out of it... as for the trans since you seem to be myopically focused on it-- drive it at all rmp, and shift fast and slow, up and down, if you find a grind--you answered your own question. Drive it hard you will find the grind. Others have expressed good common sense above, heed it.
As for a notary-- this is something you should look up-- its important in life for legal docs--but as stated--there are no warranties/guarantees, so good luck making it stick.

You are referring to the previous owner as a "kid". That is a good enough reason not to buy this evo!
The lemon law will not cover the transmission and I would ask for the "lifetime warranty" on the motor in writing. Chances are if it blows they will deny coverage because its a sport car or you modified it.

I am pretty sure the second you participate in any sanctioned motorsports events with the car you void the warranty on the engine. Maybe I'm crazy.

Why not just find one that has less of a dark past than this one? I don't understand when guys say they've been "searching for a while". There's Evos for sale in almost every state in the U.S.

Your right, its jus im looking for around 60k so i can drop some daily driver miles on it not trying to sell an over with over 90k seems like it might be a hasstle. Theirs a couple in my area with 70-80k but not decently priced at all realy all asking for 26kish. Im not a mechanic but id like something id feel confident doing strong pulls every once ina while, whil having decent miles to play with i want to sell it at 90k, selling a evo with 100k seems like a nightmare. Open to all advice especially on purchasing... Wont take advice not to buy one tho lol

What's wrong with 100k? If the cars is taken care of 100k is nothing at all. These cars are old now, they will have miles, their value is holding well, selling wouldn't be a problem.
