so what started your evo spark?
so what started your evo spark?
So pretend your lying on your friendly psychologists couch and he says, take me back to the very beginning, where did it all start?
For me it was something my brother said on a phone call about 10 years ago, he was an avid suby STi owner then and I remember him saying that the evo IX is coming out soon and thats the one to get, the evo then was worth around 65 grand and virtually untouchable to the average pay earner....I thought nothing of it till 10 yrs later when I decided to sell my bike and look for something with the same thrill....and that spark was still burning...and curiosity to go out and try one of these.....

I had always loved STis when I was a kid. Dat rumble.
One day I was near a car club that was going on and saw an evo crusing with a bunch of STis down the road and I was like "wow that's beautiful I want". The fact that evos are much rarer than STis and respond better to modifications made the decision much easier for me to make. Many years later I bought one during college and it sat in my garage because I couldn't afford the insurance... And now here I am with a 35k mile evo that I daily and love it everytime I drive it. Except for the ****ty tranny of course

Used to love the sti. Im in Northern VA and thats all you see. My younger brother liked the evo from video games and what not. Near my grandmas house, about 7 years ago or so i see this silver evo. I was hooked. I couldnt wait to get on the school bus and pass by it. I would to his neighborhood just to stare. When i started driving i would alwaya drive by it and admire it. Ive been a total evo fanboy since then, and anti sti lol.
I saw it in Who Am I... that started it for me in the '90s, especially since in the U.S., we didn't have much exposure to the car prior to that movie. I was always curious about the car, but for a long time just accepted that we probably wouldn't get it over here.
When the WRX first came out here, I was in college, but wasn't in a position to get a new car, even though I really wanted to replace my aging 1995 Honda Accord EX coupe (with the usual intake/exhaust, coilovers, wheels, etc. that most cars had). But it was such a cool car, and was pretty quick at that time.
The following year, I was excited to hear that the Evo was coming, but then the STI specs came out three days later, I expected it to be no contest, considering the on-paper differences (29 more hp, 37 more lb-ft, more advanced AWD system -- at least when comparing that year's USDM models). But I was surprised when the actual reviews came out, whether head-to-head or individual, and giving so many kudos to the Evo.
While the improvements for the 2005 model were solid, it was definitely the 2006 that sold me, with the further improved engine along with the better front end. Combine that with the fact that I was wrapping up college and was in a situation where I could get one, and here I am today.

I happened upon my 2004 Evolution GSR when I was looking at cars in late 2004. I went into Mitsubishi in Tucson and saw my car sitting on the showroom floor and it was pretty damn awesome.
The only one left and they weren't getting more that year. They let me drive it and I was hooked!!
I actually had to walk away from it at first when negotiating for it and then next day they called me back and we worked out a deal and it was mine.
Love it to this day!!

Going to Japan and seeing the early ones, and reading up on them, and their rally history. When they finally hit the 'States, I wanted to own an icon, a part of history...
I always loved playing the GT games but the evo wasn't the best car but I knew about it.
In 2003 when I was looking at the wrx I went to check out the evo and even saw one in the wild and it blew my doors off (in my 2003 Tacoma). I was impressed!
In late 2004 I bought my 2005 STi. The early evos had a few issues so I bought the Subaru instead great car and best STi ever sice the engines were still solid.
I bought a 2008 Evo X MR and now have my 2015 GSR. The evo will always be special to all of us. I hate to see this be the last iteration or the final Evolution as it should be called! I will keep this 2015 GSR forever, maybe replace another car with the focus RS in a few years.

The Evo could easily take you from broke in GT !1997! to being in a very good place with a ton of new, free cars from wins, especially since it opened up and easily won you the snow and dirt rally races.
I too am highly considering buying a 2015 Final Evolution GSR and then pass my speed6 to the wif. I'm sure she would be happy with 373 AWHP. =P
