Buying from CarMax.. misc question

I'm purchasing my first Evo from CarMax (I know definitely not where I wanted to get it from, but terrible credit).

I was referring to the stickies and found A LOT of useful information especially the My Garage on the Mitsubishi page. I have a gameplan all set for when I go there to check it out once it gets here, but a few questions I thought about while I was planning:

If when I check the oil when I get there (it has 20K miles on it, like almost exactly). If the oil needs to be change is that something that's my responsibility to take care of it, or is that something I can use, like well hey it's time time for an Oil Change, is that gonna be taken cared of before I agree to the purchase? Or is that a douchey move?

I don't see how having them change the oil if it needs to be changed is a douchey move. However, I'd be irked if the oil did need to be changed. Then you have to think about how long it needed to be changed...

If you do have them change the oil make sure they dont find a way to sneak that cost onto the top of the car. I dont think its douche to ask them to change the oil. I doubt that would be a deal breaker. And if it is well then just wait a little bit and get another! I guarantee if u walk away if they bauk at it they will do it.

I used the My Garage thing on the mitsubishi page and saw it said Synthetic Oil change at: 2K, 5K, 8K, but then the next two entries at 11K, and 16K said "MISC SHOP CHARGE".

So I went all super paranoid mode and gave the dealership that did the work a call about 20 minutes ago to find out what exactly was done. Apparantly it was just oil changes as well, so should be good.

That's good!! I just checked out that My Garage feature on Mitsubishi's website and looked at the service history. My last service date according to the site is 10/2007 at 5243 miles

so it looks like the oil hasnt been changed for a long time, well I aint paying full price for that mate....thats another hundred bucks off if I have to do that myself...etc

IMO, dont let them change the oil, you do it as a full liquids service when you get it, then you will know you have the good oils in her with the OEM filter etc

Can I get clarification on this. Are you saying like at a dealership or do it myself?

Just looked up the price of the oil and I'm actually surprised that 5qts of Mobil1 5w30 / 10w30 is only ~$20

I would try and get a discount for the dirty oil and when you get the evo home, do your own full fluid change or take it to an Evo shop to get it done and dont use mobile 1, do some research on the correct fluids, learn about your evo and save as much money as possible by DIY

Nothing wrong with Mobil 1. Just get Mobil 1 high mileage. I would buy the oil and let the dealership provide an oem filter and change it, but I'm not near any evo shops. I also have a good relationship with my dealer.

This does 2 things: first it puts the oil change on the vin, and second it gets you in good with your local dealership. They will be much more likely to help out a loyal customer with warranty issues than one they've never seen before.

If you are using an aftermarket turbo, you should use the oil specified by the manufacturer. If you are stock, it doesn't matter. The regular mobile 1 sacrifices oil protectants in favor of emissions, but high mileage has more protectants. I use Mobil 1 high mileage, changed every 3k miles. But I only drive on the street.
