Hi Thought i would join the forum Have just bought my first EVO (evo 4) off a friend of mine who could not repair it and would have destroyed it if she kept it.
Basically I fancied a project have owed a fair few quick cars before but this is my first 4wd turbo and love it to bits.
The car is original apart from been lowered and was running like a pig cleaned the maf and changed the plugs sorted that, have just replaced all the belts and tensioners along with the water pump and a full service and she is running like a dream.
The only thing im not experienced with is tuning them i understand after reading around its safe for about 350 bhp on the standard engine. I have read a lot about crank walk but it all seems to be hype and people worrying and no one actually getting it i did check the end float while doing the cam belt and it seems ok i did have some wear marks on the timing cover but half the bolts where missing so is the likely cause.
any tips would be great im changing the gear oils next week so advice on the best oils would be great.
Have been on plenty of other forums and have made some great friends hopefully this one will be the same.
We are glad you joined and posted a great introduction! Crank walk was an issue with a small number of second generation DSMs (1994-1955). I've never seen a crank walk problem with an Evo but I'm also not familiar with the pre-Evo 8s. In any case have fun and good luck with your car!
Cheers all most over in the UK have been messed around with well ruined I have purchased an evo 6 engine off a friend of mine that i will rebuild and drop in when i have a bit of free time. I run a garage so no problems doing it all its just finding the time to work on my own cars.
