After I got my Evo, my pal went and got his too. Now he's an IDIOT at driving a manual... mixes up 1st n 3rd gear. The other day we were at his drive way (which has a 20-30degree slope up). I had parked my car outside n was in his car when he was drivin up the driveway. Now the idiot didnt kno tht he was in 3rd, n accelerated HARD to go up the driveway. The car starts screaaaaaaaming and alluva sudden there's WHITE smoke comin out of the hood.. not much tho.. but still enuff for a scare out of a new car. He drove it up on first after that and parked but the damn engine smelt of exaust. Now i was thinking that this was the turbo wastegate blowing n relieving the pressure. Is this so ??
We drove the car later and the car seemed fine. Shud we go n get it chked from a dealer ?? Or is it normal. His car runs a bit hot since.. can see the heat(hot air) emitting from his hood vent. Topic for Concern ??? My evo does this too.

 

White smoke is usually coolant, black is exhaust/fuel, and blue is oil. NOt sure why he'd be billowing white smoke out of the hood vent unless it was raining and some water fell on the manifold and evaporated out of the vent (happens all the time at car washes). You need to give your friend driving lessons so he doesn't mess up his car...

 

I wud suppose it was the coolant.. considering he was stuck on a ***in hill on 3rd and flooring it.. and wondering why the *** aint he movin.. man.. he NEEDS help with his driving.. I'll go and check his coolant level today. BTW.. do u usually see transparent vapour from the evo's hood vent ?


i told him to wait fur the GT-A.. wimps car.

 

White smoke could also be the clutch and I would imagine he'd have to be riding that clutch hard not to stall in 3rd gear. I've got $5 saying he smoked the clutch.

[edit] And, yes, transparent vapour from the vents is just the heat escaping and is perfectly normal.

Did he kill his car at 80miles on the odo ?

 

Basically, he was burning away the friction material on the disc. Won't kill his car per se, but will certainly kill his clutch in super quick time.
