With a love for rally and imports owning an Evo has always been a dream that I never really thought I would see. But perfect timing allowed me to acquire one and get the chance to meet everyone here.
I bought a Tarmac Black 2003 Evolution from Colorado in May of 2021, since ownership I have absolutely loved the car in its lows and highs. THANK YOU
Thank you @MinusPrevious! She needs a decent amount of body work, but working at a body shop along with what I plan to do with the car it didn't concern me to much... What did concern me was the built motor paired with the stock trans. The previous owner said it had about 3-4k milles on the motor and was tuned by a (forgot the name) guy also in colorado. I was doubtful about what I couldn't see, but everything else I could see checked out. 117k Chassis miles3-4k Engine miles
Alright, you have a great base to start with. Many EvO's are running the stock drivetrain. If youre not launching hard or 1/4 mile'n it, the drivetrain can last! Just treat it right & dont bang on it! Certainly needs clutch if it doesnt have one yet?
Going into third was always rough but one day it magically got better...Sadly the clutch is a mystery right now! I'm getting her torn down right now so I can fully trust the car and see where to go from there. VERY EXCITE to post and share! As being a forum member noob, I'd like to thank you for the lil practice I got navigating through the site, posting/replying, it helped more than I thought it would!
Difficulty going into gear is no bueno and I had that problem with my Exedy twin. Could be clutch drag if you already tried all other adjustments, etc. Started locking me out of 3rd at first. Then 3rd and 5th. Then Reverse, 3rd, and 5th , etc. Once I got it rebuilt completely went away. I do autocross and launch my car. After two years it is "slightly" locking me out in 3rd so I think given how I drive the car, it is expected
I'm very curious about my mystery clutch now. I've only scratched the surface of any drivetrain related info, but I expected problems when the previous owner said "The drivetrain is completely stock." I figured I'd know more when the time comes around, but the problems you had sound dead on like the problems I have. You gave me the perfect place to start reading up and I swear if a Exedy twin comes out of this thing you'll be the first to know @driven168
