What would you choose?
Hello everyone,
I'm excited to join the evolution m community and just wanted to stop by and say hello! I am located in Northern CA, USA and my current vehicle is VA Subaru WRX I love it,
yet I would still love to purchase an EVO one day. I have a sentimental attachment to the VIII & IX and have driven both and fortunately, I will be in a financial situation in the next two years
to afford one! But a question pops up in my head, given that the EVO V & VI are becoming legal in the next two years these vehicles are also ones that I am interested
in. Has anyone driven both vehicles (CP5A&CT9A)? If so, what were your experiences? I'm definitely a sucker for the CP9A'S looks but the viii and the ix are also great imo. Thanks
in advance!

Welcome & thanks for posting @Kamotedriver
At this time of world events / issues, getting into any older desirable sportscar is not easy & not cheap
CT9A owner / Cheers

I think the idea is you get the 'greatest'. in the corolla world, you get asked "is that a GTS", with the evo you get asked "is that a 9" etc It must get annoying being stuck with 'the oher model'

If you already have an attachment to the CT9A, then I say go with that. IMO there is no point in putting yourself through all that is owning an old sports car if you don't already have an attachment to it.
Being in CA I would go with a US CT9A as they are newer and already registered for emissions in CA. I'm not 100% sure about imported Evo's, but with other JDM imports you would have to go through CA BAR to get registered here in CA unless you have a way of registering it out of state. This can cost $10-15k.
Looks are subjective, but a well sorted IX is the best looking Evo in my opinion.

CT9A wins imo. An ix if you can. I just find they're the most attractive chassis of the line up and will age the best in the years/decades to come. I remember when they first got introduced I was blown away that the USA got such a car, and jealous because Canada didn't. They are in the sweet spot of early 2000s where tech and still small/light chassis were perfectly combined. Everyone will have different opinions on what their favorite evo gen is but to me the 8/9 checks all the boxes. 90s evos are nice but i see them as more just rally cars where the ct9a is more versatile. Rally, street, track, drag (not my thing) but it just seems to do it all.
Side note: Its annoying many still people compare them to Subaru. They are so different aesthetically and mechanically I have no idea when or why people did this. I feel like it was mostly Subaru owners that did this though because every time I talk to them or hear them they bring up the comparisons, its like they want to associate with evos?? lol where most evo owners look at Subaru's in a totally different way and don't associate our cars with them knowing how different they are.
