Hello. My name is Manny and I've been a fan of the Evo for quite a bit. In 2006 my manager spent his Christmas bonus on a brand new Evo 9 MR...I was 16 and CRAZY about that car. Sometimes he'd just launch it while leaving work and I'd talk about it for weeks. It always put a smile on my face and that love has stuck with me. Since then I've owned quite a few different JDM platforms, to include Rotarys and Honda's, but I never got the opportunity to own a 9MR. It's still on my wish list, but that's not why we're here.
In 2011 a friend received special duty orders to leave Kadena (Okinawa, Japan) immediately and I took ownership of his Evo 4...for about 3 weeks. In that time, I spent 90% of it working on it and all of that time loving it...until I didn't and junked it. I was in over my head, broke, and the reality quickly set in that I was not allowed to have 2 cars, and that car was not going to be worth the hassle. BUT...around that same time (MY car a S15 Spec R) a close friend bought an Evo 5 and I was JEALOUS!! I had never seen nor heard of them, and I tried DESPERATELY to trade for that car for well over a year. I got to spend a lot of time around it and as a result, the seed was planted.
Fast forward 12 years and a lot of things have changed, but our conversations remain the same. He mentioned a couple years back trying to buy an Evo 6, but I didn't think much of it at the time. I was happy with my FD and had no plans to take on another car. Few years go by, I've since relocated to Florida, FD has since been sold, as well as other cars, and now I'm a dad to the world's best daughter...time for a bigger car. He brings it up again...importing an Evo 6. I immediately started to position myself to secure one as well. Although we talked about those cars and shared pictures often, I hadn't considered the reality of being able to own one after all these years. So as of last week, I am the new owner of a 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 Tommi Makinen Edition! Even though the car won't be legal for a bit, I am still very excited.
In the meantime I intend to soak up as much information (and parts) as possible. Thanks for keeping this forum going guys, you have no idea how important this is and will be for years to come!
Life without an Evo you just dream dream dream until you get one !
I appreciate it! I've come close a few times before recently, but none closer than in 2018 when I chose the FD over an Evo 8 and a few Evo X. Given the same choice at that time, I'd still choose the FD because of my situation; single with nothing but time and money to burn. Now that my situation has evolved, it's time to stop playing games and get committed to the one I always knew I was gonna marry. And so I have
I am in Florida myself and just picked up my dream Evo V, god willing next year i will grab a VI as clean as this one, check my history and you can see it. Maybe one day I will be this side or you in Ft Lauderdale.
