Eclipse GSX vs. Evo

How different are these cars?
I think I read somewhere that the engine code was the same or at least similar.
I thought the eclipse engine was coproduced with Chrysler. If so, is that the same with the Evo engine? Then is Evo engine also considered somewhat domestic?

The 4G63 has and always will be Misubishi developed. The engine in the NA Eclipse was co-developed with Chrysler.

How long have you loved DSM

The Evolution uses the 4G63 cast iron block that started it's life in the first Evo. Every turbo power 2.0L Eclipse, Talon, & Laser shared the same variation of the 4G63.

Different chassis. Both AWD. Performance is completely different, the EVO handles better runs faster and is overall a more fun ride.

Yes the 4G63 is Mitsubishi devolped, but from late '92 up to '99 4G63's that went into DSM's (Eclipses, Talons, Lasers) was assembled in the U.S. at the Normal, Illinois plant where eclipses and USDM Galants are made today. 90-94 Non-turbo DSM's used a 1.8L 4G37 and a nonturbo variant 4G63. The Chrysler engine you are thinking of is the 420A used in the 95-99 DSM's, which is also found in Neons.

Not every eclipse engine is the same, 90-early 92 turbo DSM's used a Japanese built 4G63 refered to as a 6-bolt, refering to the flywheel bolts. This engine is similiar to the ones found in Evo's up to the EVO III. late 92 and up used an american built 4G63 known as the 7 bolt, a few changes were made after that, mainly that the turbo was changed from the 14B to the smaller T25.

Well, thats it for now, I'm tired.

uhh what?
the 1990-1992 dsm uses a evo 1-3 engine... the FIRST evo engine
the evo 4 ->evo 8 uses a variation of the current engine

the 1992-1999 dsm uses a 7 bolt block, not much different just prone to crankwalk... but that's overrated.. not many people have cw anyways...

the evo engine is old technology... just pretty strong

If I could just add on that, the engine is the same, only difference is the turbo. I now the Evo III uses a form of a 16G. It's horsepower was bumped up to 260 at the introduction of the Evo II and the power didnt change to the III. So I'm pretty sure both the II and the III used that 16G. I cannot answer what the Evo I had.
