Test Pipe Questions

I just recently got my test pipe installed in my car. And I go to the dealership to get my oil changed (its the only place my parents let me get it changed). Anyways, will they care if I have on my car? What would they do if they notice it?

Here in Canada they rape you with a broom.

I doubt they'd care. What are they going to do...void your warranty *roflmao*

Install it. And if you car about not being caught, buy a cat, gut it, and put the heatshield around the testpipe.....that's what I did.

$200 ish.....seriously gut a cat and put the heat shield over it.....it fools the cops. It fooled the cops quite a few times for me.

The only real giveaway is the sound. If you line up a cat-less lancer and a lancer with one you can easily figure out which is which. Without the cat it sounds louder....almost ricey.

When you say gut the cat and put a heatshield around it, do you mean gut the one i have or get a new one? Also, where would I get the new cat and the heatshield?

If you look around there are companies that sell just the cat casing, so you can weld it on yourself. A good rule of thumb when modding any car is to keep all the stock pieces. It gets tempting to sell them or mod them, but consider what would happen if you did get caught without a cat and got a correction citation. You would then have to purchase a new cat.

My advice is to either buy the fake cat sheilds and weld them on, or find a salvage yard cat (about the same size) and gut that one. But keep the stock parts; just in case.

-just a thought.

you could try locating a junk yard that has a wrecked lancer .. remove the CAT, remove the shield on it and just buy that. OR .. take a stock lancer cat and drill it out.

as for locating a fake shield .. I don't know myself. best of luck!

One additional thought ...

I bought my 2003 OZ brand new from a local mitsu dealer in Eugene, Oregon. We have NO EMISSIONS testing WHATSOEVER, NONE! NADA, ziltch! dont haveta worry about it.

but ...

they made me sign a piece of paper when I bought it stating that I would NOT remove the catalitic converters from my car (ANY of them). The paper didn't go into details about what the consequences were, but I recall that piece of paper being handed to me. I told them that I wasn't going to sign it .. he said that in order for me to finance through Mitsu themselves, that was a requirement ... I dunno how much BS that is but just a thought.
