Next generation Evo?

Any word on when Mitsubishi will release the next generation Evolution? How long has the Evo VIII been out in Japan? Unless it’s way off, I’ll wait for the Evo IX.

The reason that I’m asking, is because, I am looking for a new daily driver.
My current daily is a 03 RSX Type-S.

No word on the 9, the next "new" model will be the Evo MR, with more power, ACD, and lighter weight.

The MR = Evo 8.5 is the current Evo in Japan. Mitsubishi seem to be able to keep the new Evo under wraps pretty well. I don't remember any good leaked renderings of past Evos. I think there battle with Subaru for that market keeps them pretty tight-lipped about future models.

EVO 9 US spec's gonna be very different from EVO 9 J-Spec.

i personally think the new look is ugly. it's almost like trying to look like RSX and Civic with flare of Celica...

I suspect rather than "tight lipped" they are more like "we aren't even thinking about it".

I would imagine that they have been thinking about it for awhile, probably as soon as they were done with the MR.

There only non Mitsubishi-designer sketches.
Technically, the designers are basing there concepts from the current, newest lancer. The 2004s.

But remember the past, some sketches were near the final result for the VII, and some were not. The same with the VIII, it was a major change from the VII, Even bigger from the previous models.

As well the IX is probably the most difficult to predict. Why? I believe so because of the following reasons:

1) We've seen how Mitsubishi changed the design drastically from the past 2 years (VI to VII, and VII to VIII) It can happen again. As I see it, the VIII from the current guess illustrations are not really a major change from the VIII. Aside from the bottom of the front bumper and the headlights.

2) We suspect the IX to be out around 2006 as a 2007 Model, from the past 2 base lancer editions we noticed a change in design for a period of 2 Model years. (Example: 2002-2003 Lancers based off the VII in ways, Then the 2004-2005-2006? models based off the VIII in ways *mainly the front bumper and a bit of the interior). So if they keep the 2 year model life cycle we could see the IX Appear 2006 with a whole new design, and the lancers soon after with a design related to the IX.

3) Relates to reason 2, the 2004's appear to be based off the VIII. Unless Mitsubishi breaks its new trend of revamping the appearance of the evo in a major way like they did from VI>VII>VIII then the design will most likely not be based off a lancer that has design ties in with the current Evolution.

4) And finally the last reason, the introduction of the test WRC Vehicle. Even though this has just as much chance as anything else of being a design, it is still a possibility of the IX being based off that design. Only time will tell.

In conclusion, we need to keep our mind open but at the same time be aware that all the designs and concept illustrations floating around the internet are *not* official, *not* by Mitsubishi, and could possibly *not* be even *close* to the official IX Design.

Thanks for reading,
- Nathan.
