What makes a moderator a moderator?

Just wondering, how do the moderators get appointed? Do they make money? Dunno, but I do know on www.srt4forums.com, they are elected. IS that how it works here?

we do not get money. we do this because we love the place and the people that are here. we get appointed by Mark based on our participation on the board as members. you can request to become a mod and i *think* that Mark will do some research on your user name and see what you have done on the boards.

sorry, wrong choice of words we are appointed

Mark (KK on the board) is the owner and adminstraitor of Evolutionm. he is the one who appoints the mods and basically have the final say on what goes on this board (altough he does consult with us )

not that i know of. we rarely deal with the vendors unless it is about an issue that has to do with this site. the only things i got so far from this are great friends, a lot of info and a free evolutionm t-shirt

No.. but seriously.. being a mod is not all the fun and games that everyone thinks it is. I mod on clubsi.com (resident boost/turbo expert) and its almost more of a hassle then a privelege at least half the time. People just don't realize all the time and effort extra that has to be put in just to keep things running, current, and not boring. I especially feel for the admins who run the site because god knows dealing with script kiddies gets old... lol

Yeah, but I seem to get the impression that this board is over moderated. What's the turnover/kick rate on here?

Over moderated? Is that even possible? A well run board should be moderated by enough people to keep things civil and productive without every mod always present and doing their job. I personally have only been surfing for a couple of months now (clubsi bastard step child since I sold my beast si) and I can't agree with this...

i also have to disagree (although i am biased ). the only people that we ban or timeout are people who simply can't play by the rules even after several warnings. if you are a good member than you will get the best from us and from the rest of the members. if all you want to do is cause trouble than this will not be tolarated. you also have to understand that by causing trouble, you are disrespecting us and Mark. like i have said, we do this because we would like to see this place grow and we want this place to be the best that it can. we do not get paid we do not have to do this.....

Well, I ask because I have been told that plenty of people have been banned with no warning. I don't want to be a sponsor on a board that does not allow free speech. I totally understand people who are warned and banned, but people that are simply banned......doesn't seem right.

as far as i know, that rarely happens here. the only times we will ban on the spot is if: the guy uses the board to spam, the guy threaten someone's life, the guy has more than 1 account or if the guy is a troll. on all other occusions, we warn first via the warning system or by PM and than if the problem continues, we time out the user or ban him.
