Afraid of Wing getting stolen

I'm so paranoid about my Wing getting stolen everytime I'm parked outside my garage. I've read that it's not too difficult for theives to steal the wing. My question is besides an alarm, is there anything I can do to make it harder to steal?

You can take it off. It is not very easy to remove. I just took the wing off my car and it was bolted and "glued" to the trunk with double sided foam tape. If someone ripped it off to steal it they would damage the wing and the trunk.

So basically now when somone tries to steal your wing it costs you more money? I don't see how that is any better, that is a stupid idea.

No, my point was they can't steal it if it isn't there... and the wing is already attached securely to the trunk so if they do try to rip it off it will damage the trunk.

The only other option to reduce the risk of having it stolen is an alarm with a shock sensor, but he's looking for other suggestions... this is mine.

What do you suggest smart guy?

Dude if you have an Evo dont worry it's insured already.
If you have a Lancer and it's an aftermarket part, then call your insurance company, let them know you bought a wing for the trunk, how much you paid for it, and pay the extra $5 or so a month to get it insured.
Period.

I had my wing stolen and then had it replaced with the RS deck lid. Don't worry about it being stolen, and here is why. If it does get stolen then get a RS deck lid and some extra cash for mods or winter tires, etc. That is what I did. If you take off your wing, your going to need a new trunk. This is not cheap. Even if you keep the old deck lid, getting the holes welded and the paint blended will cost you a pretty penny. I miss my spoiler sometimes, so just enjoy it. Worrying about it isn't worth it. The stolen spoilers are an exception, all the ones I see around me still have theirs.

upstate: that is an alternative, but to me an Evo without the wing is just not an Evo.

corona: the insurance idea is great except, I'll have to dish out a $500 deductible and my premiums will go up for filing a claim.

4pistons: agreed, i got to just quit being so paranoid and deal with it if it ever does get stolen.

I have a $500 deductible also, but thats on services to repair the car. Do you have pay a deductible for a stolen item?

Double check your deductible. The collision maybe $500, but your comprehensive is probably $250. If it isn't $250 and you are worried about the theft, then lower your comp, that will not change the price much at all.

I think you misunderstood him. The stock wing, from the factory, is attached to the boot with double sided tape under each pillar as well as 1 nut and 1 bolt on each side. Not easy to just pull it off.

i talked to someone who actually had his wing taken off his evo

he said he could tell it took them a looong time to get it off and probably destroyed the thing in the process, its not easy.
