IX MR's tranny sucki?

I need some searchs on the forum, and I saw a lot negative comment about MR's 6 speed tranny. I wonder if IX MR get a sucki 6 speed tranny. If it does, what I can do to prevent problems occur? {pcfreak}

I thought so yesterday when I traded in my MR for a black gsr!
I loved the gsr immediately, the car shifts soo much better.
shifting My MR felt like I was pulling on a ratchet, and the car for some reason bucked and snorted when I let off the gas, maybe it was the flash I don't know.
My friend said it looked like I was on the brakes on the freeway everytime I slightly let of the gas.

If you use the recommended tranny oil from Mitsubishi ( especially on the 6 speed ) you should be fine.

Driving the car like a human being helps too.

With that said, there does seem to be more members on the forum
with 6 speed transmission issues, but that doesn't mean they're bad.

I've had my IX MR for about a month and a half now, and I believe it's on of the smoothest-shifting(next to the 911s/Caymans at work) tranny's i've ever driven. Hopefully the issues are just coincidence.

BTW, I never launched and never will launch my car, I see that as being one of the biggest reasons for so many issues that I've heard of.

Launching screws up the clutch and first gear, but as far as the other people having problems I think it is because people "slam" the gears thinking it makes them drive faster. What most people don't realize is that the speed of the shift is in your feet, not the shifter.

There are only very very few (less than *1%) MR owners that had problem with the MR tranny. Almost all of them was using the synchcrohift stuff and overheated the fluid and almost almost them abuse/race thier car on the road course for 20+ minutes.

*the avg numbers was based on what I've seen on evoM against the supposed to be numbers of MRs that was released by Mitsu ((2005=1000)+(2006=1500)).

My evo is going to be my track car. What I can do to protect my tranny?

mr trans

my 9 mr tranny is very smooth , was alittle knotchy at first but after 1000 miles its slowly breaking in nicley, the 4-5 shift takes some getting used , not as smooth as 2-3 shift but i think it will get better with time , buy the way i changed the oil to amsoil severe trans fluid .seamed to help

I think the 1-2 shift in BOTH, the Evo AND the STi suck, regardless of which transmission it is.

In the STi, the moment I mash my foot to the floor, I'm shifting. It seems like it just takes sooooo damned long! {thumbdwn} I swear, I must lose nearly .6 between shifts. It feels that horrible. {thumbdwn} It feels very.....lazy.

I've driven some Evos and they feel nearly the same way. It just seems like there's an awful lot of time wasted between shifts, and with the Evo the shifts are pretty jerky also.

I think both cars have transmissions that provide a tight "mechanical" feel to them, and the shifts are "positive," but they just seem......slow.

The MR tranny seems to be strong enough for drag strip use, but needs an active cooling system for track use. Mine had a very notchy 1-2 shift for the first 4k miles, but its getting better now. I changed out the tranny oil for Amsoil MTG at 3k miles. I don't know that it helped much, but I'll probably continue to use it.

My MR shifts really smooth, but I dont beat it up on a regular basis...

awdjunkies Aug 27, 2006 09:01 AM

broken tranny(6sp) from what I have read is mainly due to track use/abuse.

robb86 Aug 27, 2006 09:05 AM

My tranny feels somewhat notchy and I havent launched or driven it hard at all.
Car has 3000 miles on it.
