What would you do if you coudn't...

What would you do if you couldn't afford an Evo? Would you consider a cheaper alternative (WRX)?

I definately want an Evo, but I'm debating if a WRX would be a worthy alternative if the Evo's price is a bit too much for me.

Curious as to what you peeps think.

I'd prbably get a TC. Looks pretty nice, has lot of parts available and is pretty fun out of the box.

Post your price range and people will have more opinions. Everyone likes to figure out the best car for say $17K or something.

I was in the same boat. Had it narrowed down to either an evo or a WRX (any year just low mileage). Found 2 WRX's on carmax's website for 20k after tax tag and title. One was an 03 the other was an 04 and both had close to the same mileage. Got lucky and found my 03 Evo for 21k and went for it! Post a price range though and more people will be able to help you out. Good luck!

lol. well if the evo is too expensive out of the box, then i guess i'd go with a wrx. but, i'd rather go with an integra type-r or maybe buy a 240 cheap and swap an sr20 in. plus you could mod it for around the same price of the suby. just my 2 cents. That's what i would have done if i didnt get an evo.

I don't know...I had a WRX and I dumped tons into it...I replaced almost every susp part minus the steering rack/control arms, upgraded the brakes and was stage 4++ and wasn't really happy. I love the Evos handling, the brakes are really nice and firm but lack some initial bite (can be fixed with pads) that my WRX setup had and the power per cost ratio is so much better then on my WRX. If you're not going to mod then yeah the WRX is great, but if you're looking to track a lot then save up for the Evo imho.

That is what I love about the Evo's. Everything feels "tight".

I may just have to deal with an RS vs an IX. But I don't know how a power drop would fare with me.

Right now I'm about 90% sure that I'll be getting an Evo for my next ride.

I'm just weighing my options right now. It is good to get additional insight on a subject.

how much can you afford a month for a car and insurance?

evo637 Sep 13, 2006 09:32 PM

I would just save money until I have enough to buy an evo. There's really no point in getting a car that you know is just an alternative.

As far as a power drop do you mean from your Mustang(is it modded) even if so I think you will find with even a stock Evo IX and it's awd it will be probably more than you can master for a little while. And if you feel it's not fast enough for you slap an exhaust ,intake and MBC and tune it for around another 100whp :D .

you could problaly find a 95-on mitsu GSX turbo AWD,,,,,there sweet until you can afford an evo.

What's your bigger priority? Performance or fun?

Enough to afford a brand new M3, BUT...I don't want to spend that much.

Honestly I don't want to spend over 35k. We may need to toss some money towards the house soon, so I'd like to not go over that, so bills will still be a piece of cake to handle.

I've driven fast cars. I push my car all the time. I take turns at speeds where average people would just pee their pants. I like agility, I love the rush of a turbo, and I love the looks of the Evo. I used to auto-x all the time.

Both

Stock to start with, and slowly morph it into an extremely fun/high performance ride. I'm not looking to break any speed records, I want something that is immensely fun and can hang with some good cars out there. I want an MR for the 6 speed, but in all honesty, I can't see myself going over 150 (though the stang has been there).

i think if your really cant afford to buy an evo I wouldnt just because of how high maintenance they are... but that is up 2 u of coarse.
