Help! I can't make up my mind modwise!

Been searching for hours and still can decide, so I'm relying on your guys' experience. I have an 06 EVO IX. Want to go a bit faster (occasional 1/4 mile use) but want to stay as quiet/safe as possible. I've already purchased after lots of research a Greddy SP2 Catback and K&N Panel filter. Now the dilemma money wise. Should I :

a) Buy a MBC and get a E-mail Flash
b) Buy the TTP 3" Down Pipe and Test Pipe

If I went with option "b" how much louder would the car be? Will it perform better? And can I wait for a while to do the MBC and Flash?

Basically, which is better for where I'm at mod wise? Everything says go with a "TBE" but everything esle says get a MBC/Flash? But I can only get one right now. Thanks, my head hurts from reading all of these threads.

i personally had the tbe for like 4 months before i got a tune and the car felt stronger but you will see more performance gain with the flash and the mbc as of right now. the tbe is not much louder than the catback.

Algebra:

-if (a)=power
-and (b)=more power
-and it'd be unwise to go for (a) without really doing (b)

therefore, you should go for (a)+(b) which is even more power..

Why not do them both at once? If you buy the downpipe and test pipe you can get an E-Flash and MBC for about 150 more.

do them all and add alky hahah...

evrblazin Feb 11, 2007 11:59 AM

I think ,for you, the TBE would be the best bet for now.

Then get a fuel pump.

After that get the MBC and Flash.

derangedazn Feb 11, 2007 12:18 PM

why not mbc and a tune...you get the most for your money then later get a tbe, fuel pump.

Personally I would get tbe, fuel pump and tbe and tune/flash

LIL EVOL Feb 11, 2007 12:22 PM

Cool..I was thinking TBE first...just wanted to make sure it was safe and wouldn't screw my fuel up too much....I guess these IXs run rich from the factory. So I should feel some gain, but will really notice much more once I add MBC/Flash. If I could afford both right now, I'd do both, I can't that why I posted my dilemma. Thanks for the help so far fellas. Any more inputs?

LILevo,

Sorry to critizise you but I think you are jeopardizing a lot by not doing it all at once.

The difference between both options combined is not even $300. If you have an extra $200ish laying around then wait and do it all at once or at least do the Eflash last(after all the mods are in).

You are not proposing a mod path of a stroker kit or a turbokit or a methanol+cams, you are proposing a minor budget spending of less than $300.

Withouth looking at details, I guess that option A is about $275 and option B is also around $275. Do what the veterans of this forum are suggesting, buy everything then do the E-flash.

As far is your choice of catback, you got one of the less popular cat backs. The answer to your question about noise, the test pipe will gmake your exhaust a little louder overall.

My .2c

Carlos

What's wrong with the Greddy SP2...alot of folks like it...flows good but still quiet.

derangedazn Feb 11, 2007 01:34 PM

a lot of people here run AMS, Buschur, Turbo XS, Megan, HKS....which seem to be the more popular brands.

Nothing is wrong as long as it is a 3" all the way back, with very little bend.

steevo Feb 11, 2007 01:34 PM

Just do the MBC first, then wait for the tbe, other mods, and flash. $85 bucks and your 1/4 mile will definately be faster.

ries Feb 11, 2007 01:38 PM

+1 on doing it all at once...but if you have to do one or the other do option "A".

then later do a mbc+fuel pump+tune....your car will be a totally different beast w/ all the combined mods {thumbup}

LIL EVOL Feb 11, 2007 01:43 PM

So "A" then? MBC and Flash? Then add down the road? What difference can I expect in the quarter with K&N Panel Filter, Catback, MBC, and DynoFlash? If I flash and have to go-back to the dealer can I save and upload my stock tune and revert back from leaving the stealership?

o-townFLA Feb 11, 2007 02:11 PM

I would get the exhaust first. Only because when you finnaly get the dough to do a reflash you can add the exhaust to the the mix. Gaining more power because the exahust is accounted for... other than getting the flash then later down the road getting a exhaust or TBE and not fully getting the power from the setup...
