My Oil Temp Seems to be higher than everyone else's???
 

I have a 2005 Evo 8
- 255 walbro pump
- Forge Unos Boost controller
- 3 Stewart Warner Gauges: Boost, Oil Temp & Oil Pressure.


I just installed them yesterday and noticed that it takes a while for the oil to get up to operating temperature. Also, today when driving in 85 degree weather here in Tallahassee, I noticed that the oil temperature got around 205 degrees at one point. Does anyone else's temp read this high? I searched, and most everyone sees about 194 at the most (90 celsius). The oil is fresh 10w30 mobil 1 synthetic.

Anyone have an answer? What is too high?

check ur oil cooler.. maybe its dirty.. other than that.. make sure the ducts are properly aligned..

humidity plays a BIG factor in your temp. mine stays around 180-185f on the highway. check your ducting and the fins of the cooler itself.

mine is at 190 most of the time but on really hot days and after some boosting it goes up to 210. i heard optimal power is at 210 degrees. most ppl that track their cars see upwards of 250+.

yea ive hit 120c on a hot day at the track... dont know wut that is in F

I haven't closely looked at the oil cooler but I doubt that its dirty or has bent fins. Car only has 17,xxx on her.

So at what temperature does synthetic oil break down. And also, what is a good temp to shut the car off? I know that oil can cook inside the turbo charger if it is not properly run after a hard pull or long driving, or does this not matter as much since our turbos are both oil and water-cooled? Any input?

Your coolant hovers around the 180-190F mark so it should be no surprise that oil reaches and exceeds that amount.

How about 248ºF = 120ºC

/\ not good for everyday driving. if its at the track, you may want to look into a bigger oil cooler.:beer:

180~200F is ok for oil temp driving regularly.. If u hit more, u could reach to 240 (excessive driving in excessive heat, welcome to Dubai!).. But make sure u drive around 5mins before you park your car to drop down to 200 again..

local temps make a hudge difference.

i'm easy hit 220 -230. normal driving 180-200.

I noticed that my oil temp. when up a lot more and faster when I did my last oil change with "10w-30... " I had been using "5w-30" but..goes up to about 90C fast and many times... with 10w-30 and with 5w-30 I have avg.70-80 C...I'm going back to 5w-30 on my next oil change ;) I live in L.A., Cali.
