When something new comes out it usually has what they call bugs or parts arnt working properly so they have to "Recall" the car to replace it with a improved part.

And it's free, you don't have to pay a dime. Usually you can call the dealer, give them your VIN # and they can tell you if there are any recalls on it or not.

Most often a recall is for a safety issue. And, these recalls don’t happen immediately. When the transfer cases on DSM’s were leaking out through the driveshaft and causing the rear wheels to lock it took a couple of years worth of complaints to the feds before any interest was shown.

Recalls can also occur when a vehicle is found to be busting the pollution regs. My ’92 Laser was recalled to have the oxygen sensor replaced.

And, sometimes the maker will issue a recall to forestall large warranty claims. ’90 and ’91 DSMs were recalled to replace defective timing belts.

So, if you are expecting the maker to issue recalls on you X Lancer until the car is perfect, that isn’t going to happen.
