Possible IX Transfer case issue's
I might just be over reacting so bear with me. When ever i shift my car violently from first gear to second and sometimes third i hear a loud bang coming from the back of the car. Any ideas? I would love to bring the car to the dealer but i just bought it with aftermarket parts and no stock replacements. If this was my mustang i would have thought that i was losing my rear driveshaft u joint. Any info would be great.

No worries it is not the TC, the loud bang you are hearing is called diff slap (do a search on this to find the explanation of what is happening).
As you drive it hard more and more you will learn how to shift fast without shocking the whole driveline and generating the loud bang. |
Mine does it all the time too.

Yea I've done it a few times but only when your really pushing the car and fast on the pedals. I dont like it either but oh well.

ok thanks guys, between the boost leak and this i was getting a little nervous. Do the viii's do this as well.

I know this isn't pertaining to the OP's, but the IX im about to get has a small, quiet whirring whine when the clutch is enganged...any ideas? i think it might be the clutch bearing?
|
i haven't noticed this on mine.
|
Mine does it too when iam in the drag strip.Kinda worries me.

It definitly doesn't sound good, does anybody have any techniques to limit this from happening.
|
^^no offense, but you need to learn how to drive your car properly. You shouldn't be slapping the diff like that, even if you're racing and shifting very fast.
|
dont just drop the clutch when u shift.....
you need to practice and learn to shift fast, but shift smooth the noise is caused from dropping the clutch when your shifting |
No offense taken, im coming from a 500 hp rear wheel drive. There is a huge difference as far as wheel spin goes. When i learned how to drive my mustang everyone told me don't slip the clutch... spin the tires. I guess on an evo its cheaper to change the clutch than overhaul the t-case. This car is a learning expierience and i am learning. Thanks for the comments and don't be shy with any tips that helped you
