Tranny wouldn't go into gear while driving
Hey, while I was datalogging, I took the shifter out of gear after redlining, and after I went to put it back into gear, it wouldn't go in. I tried a few times, but with no luck, all I got was a nasty grinding noise.
Now, has anyone else experienced this? Is this a sign of a problem or isn't it something to worry about? My car has 2300 miles on it. I THINK it might be due to the speed I was going, but then again, I was attempting to put it into 5th, so it's not like it was a low gear  Any insight would be really appreciated, as I'm kinda worried now |
that hapense to me somtimes. just like 30 mins ago leaving gas station i went to put it in 2nd, i wasnt going fast, it happend as i was turning out of the lot and was puting it in 2nd. i got the grindy sound

Every time this has happened to me selecting another gear instead of the one i want then reselecting that gear fixes the "grinding". Its never consistent so I can only imagine that something happens in the process where the synchro refuses to engage.
I'm guessing the synchro get slid back towards another gear just enough to make the nasty noises moving the forks in the other direction resets the synchro I suppose fixing the immediate problem. |
Bump
Can anyone else comment on this? Is this a serious problem or just an "Evo" thing? I have an '06, and it's still brand new :( |

That happened to me last week. I adjusted the clutch (2 turns clockwise) and it solved the problem. Try also changed to BG Synchroshift II.

The problem is actually you not using the transmission quite properly. Not being a jerk I swear. When you took it out of gear, I bet you let the clutch out. This negates the effect of the synchros and will allow the gears to spin at different speeds. Hard to explain without a picture. This may help, because i know my post really wasn't helpful. http://auto.howstuffworks.com/transmission.htm

So basically, next time I datalog and am going at that speed, just leave it in gear, and slow down? Thanks {thumbup} |
Excatly. If you want to look like a jackass in a parking lot like I did to figure this out for yourself, like I did, Put it in reverse, Rev, take it back out, put it back in *CRUNCH*
