Ryan's 'evolved' Evo VIII GSR
When the Evo emerged for US sale in 03, I instantly fell in love and like most Evo owners, had to have one. My Evo VIII GSR was always just a dream for me to own, did a tour in Iraq just to finally get one and then another tour in Afghanistan for what I refer to as "mod money." haha It was origionally sold by a dealer in Seattle, WA. where it was the owner of the dealers wife's demo and literally sat in their garage. I purchsed it through a dealer in Great Falls, MT, where I was currently stationed with the military and eventually trailerd it from Montana to Pennsylvania. I really hate to admit it, but it basically sits covered in my garage and is only driven on nice, sunny days. I know all the hard-core Subie/Evo guys are shaking your head at me for that..but hey, it is what it is. Bought it at the end of '04 with 4k and currently it only has 35k total miles, so ya can see how little it's actaully driven, but I still managed to make it a certified 100mph club car from Beaver Springs Dragway. ;)
Alright, enough with the history lesson, lets get to the part that everyone always wants to know, the mods...the car is in a huge transition right now and is constantly 'evolving.' I've tried to keep the mods tasteful, yet practical, so here is a current list along with some pics. Everyone always asks "why didn't you go with a huge turbo, like a 35R etc?" And the simple answer is, I still really love to drive my car. I mean, nothing against those of you with large frame turbos, but I didn't want all the dreaded lag, so I opted instead for the CBRD BBK set-up. For the same money, I got awesome power gains, plus I can still take it out on the weekends and destroy some backroad twisties. Perhaps one day I may take it to that level, but for now it's a killer street and wild auto-x car. I'll keep updating as I get more done or you can check my profile as the car is in the shop more then in my garage. Here are the numbers thus far: Since the recent 2.2 motor, water/meth kit car put down 607hp@38psi Car origionally put down 425whp/391wtq @ 28psi with a mild tune on CBRD's Mustang II load-bearing dyno on 93 octane pump-gas. However, with some tweaking and a more aggressive tune, it put down 456whp/422wtq @ 31psi on straight pump-gas. Did some more tweaking and with an extremely aggressive tune and some 100 octane race fuel made 504whp/443wtq @ 33psi (which is about all the stock block could take). I want to break 600whp, so the stock bottom end will have to go. That's next on the agenda...****ing money-pit. The way I look at it, some people spend money on clothes, shoes, houses, etc; I just chose to spend it on cars...LOL... |

Nice ride man! Just because you don't get to drive her much obviously does NOT mean you don't love her. Thanks for sharing. {thumbup}

yeh man just let me know when and where for the SPA meets and I'll be there; weather permitting :) and it's ryan by the way..lol.. think i saw it in the thread and forgot your name... my bad! {thumbup} |
With 93 oct pump gas you made 411whp on CBRD's mustang dyno, how did you do it?
I'd recommend that you run recir bov, it will help the performance. And get rid of S tech spring, S tech drops the car way to much, and you need the roll center kit and bump steer kit for the lowered car. |

And get rid of S tech spring, S tech drops the car way to much, and you need the roll center kit and bump steer kit for the lowered car. The JM Fab mani was the first new prototype of a new ported style mani they produced, it definatly performed better then past models increasing previous BBK hp numbers. I did all supporting mods to include the BBK fully-ported Blouch turbo, 1000cc injectors, fuel pump, cams, head studs ,etc...plus Chad re-tuned it. We did everything aside from yanking the motor and doing forged internals (which is coming soon). We were both definatly surprised by the numbers, but extremely pleased at the same time. If you look closely at the post, I've already purchased another BOV to replace my VTA BOV...but honestly, performance wise it really doesn't have as much bearing as maybe you'd think, just a slight stall/idle problem. Actually, the HKS held 29lbs of boost w/out leaking/fluttering on the dyno. For a stock turbo Evo, the VTA will work with minimul issues, however with my current set-up, the VTA is not the best choice, hence why I got the APS twin-vent. And personally, I like the S-Techs and how it improved the stance of my car; in no way do I believe it "lowers the car too much." In my opinion, stock Evos sit like a monster trucks and have entirely too much wheel gap. The springs made it sit just right! Chad does my alignment and camber so I have no issues with clearance, steering or handling...and since it's not a daily driven car, no complaints about ride comfort, although I am told it can be quite harsh. |

Updated as of 4/25 with a ton of new parts, lemme know what ya'll think! I updated the mod list on the start of this thread, check it out for a complete list of parts.
Put down 417whp/391wtq @ 31psi on CBRD's mustang II dyno! The tq incrase is what amazed Chad and I, a huge gain over last time!! I knew we wouldn't gain too much hp b/c it was significantly warmer then when dyno'd with the turbo install (mid Feb); I honeslty thought we'd lose a lot, so a few HP gain is ok with me! ****ing thing squats tough on that dyno... |
car looks good, fast and simple...but you have posted the same pics twice
