I'm probably gonna get laughed at for asking this....

Hey guys I am new here but not that new when it comes to this car/motor. I grew up with a Eclipse GST (DSM) in High School.:D

I was just curious about something. With the way video games have been developed particully Gran Turismo which is basicaly the go to game for everything racing. And it is also called a real driving simulator. That particular game has a very in depth tunning/modifing section when it comes to building your car in the game. It consists of ride height, gear ratios, downforce, etc... basically everything you can imagine.

My question to you guys is that since the Evo and past Evo generations have been seen in all Gran Turismo games would this be a very cheap way to get a feel on how the car will react to different settings in real life. My friend tried this with Gran Turismo 4 the last one for the PS2 and change his settings on the video game to match his real life SRT-4 Neon. If I remeber correctly he said it was very similar except for the quarter mile test which was only off by a few sec like 1-2 according to the factory specifications.

Would anyone on here know anything about this or even tried it? Because I haven't yet. Thanks.

Don't know if this is a troll but I'll bite. Best bet is to ask around locally and on forums from people who are knowledgeable on the subject rather than rely on a simulation that can be semi-realistic but is only meant for pure entertainment.

Oh and yeah I play GT4 when it's too wet to play in the canyons...

Kevmac3685 Apr 9, 2010 07:46 AM

No, this is not a troll lol. I just recently brought an Evo because I simply fell in love with this car when I played it as a kid. And thats why I wanted one in real life. I plan to do auto-cross in the near future depending on my wallet lol.

I just read something off of wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gran_Turismo_4) scroll to section that says Qualifications as a simulator. They said they did try this but with exotic cars and such. But how true is wiki and is the Evo even consider an exotic car because maybe it's different trying to test this with a somewhat ecnomy car.

Start going to autox's and meeting Evo people. Hopefully they will let you drive their cars so you can figure out what may work for you.

Thanks for the idea nanashi. I will try that and see what happens. Lucky for me I live in Old Bridge NJ and Raceway Park is only 15 min from my house lol.

Gran Turismo does pretty well in capturing stock car settings and such, but the driving itself isn't really up to par as a true simulator. GT5P might be a better choice if you really wanted to try this out.

There are also Evo mods available for "real" simulators like GTR2 and rFactor, but they are not that accurate as far as handling. So, you can use GT and have a good version of the car with mediacre physics, or use rFactor/GTR and have great physics and a crappy car. Neither is really a good choice.

I would suggest just doing your research and seeing what people who autocross and track their Evo's have done and how it made the car handle. There is lots of info here and on other forums. Good luck.

ummmmmmm, no. simulate on a couch all you want. driving is the best simulator. it's like going to school to be an auto mechanic, get all your a.s.e. licences, great grades, then, when you go to a shop for a job, you ask, "what's a lof?". lo freakin l.

everyone beat me to it with the link to the Top Gear segment lol

The only simulator I feel is truly accurate is iRacing. I raced the sb2000 in there before I went to my second formula car school at laguna seca. I really felt like I had driven the car before but I did have a semi-nice setup I made myself:

i know a guy how tired the setting of forza on his suspension at the track and it actually worked

I used Granturismo, forza 3 and built my own pc to run iRacing and other driving sims before last season to learn tracks. Some are as accurate as it gets.

And I have set up cars on game to act nearly identicle as cars I own or race in real life.

there was a guy a few years ago in britain that got an audition/contract with a rally team after becoming really good on a rally video game on PS2. I forgot what game it was, but the guy had never actually driven a rally car other than the game before he got his shot with a real pro rally team. it was a segment done on 5th gear i think? dunno, it's out there somewhere.

also, F1 drivers use simulators to learn tracks before they ever see them in real life.

i guess the point is, it's possible to use a simulator IF the siumlator is accurate enough. Gran Turismo isn't accurate enough to give you any concrete feedback, but it could point you in the right direction.
