Found an evo... what do you think it's worth?

Ok guys so I've been off and on the forum for awhile that's why I don't have many posts. I've been in the LS1 Fbody world my whole life and still am but I've been wanting a Evo for awhile. I joined to learn more about Evos and hopefully find one. Well long story short I found one and wanted to see what you guys thought of it. I know the original owner very well and he knows the guy he sold it to. He's asking 14,500 but really what do you guys feel is fair?

He claimed it has the usual chips and dings a 100,000 mile car would have but theres a gash where someone backed into it on the rear bumper.

It is an 03 Apex Silver just turned 102,000 miles (which is a little higher than what i was wanting but)

Just had the timing belt, water pump, timing belt tensioner, and air idle control valve replaced. I also recently replaced the tires with Falken Azenis RT-615 size 255 40 17, had an alignment done, and the brake rotors resurfaced. I have the service records for the services that were just performed, as well as receipts for almost all the parts I have bought. I had the car tuned at H&H Performance in Fayetteville NC.

Mods are:
Buschur Racing MAF intake kit

102k for 14.5k? I mean all the parts that are already on there is nice and all but I dont think i would pay 14.5 for a 100k+ mileage car. I would just save up a little more and give a 40-50k mileage EVO for like 17-19k.. Just my opinion...

This is along the lines of what I was thinking as well. I just think even at 50k miles you'd be getting a better engine/car. But this obviously requires you to be willing (and able) to throw down a few more thousand. I definitely think Evos are capable of being great cars even after 100k miles, BUT, it's different when you're buying it at that point and weren't the one to originally drive it to that point from the beginning (or close to).

And I don't know the situation regarding you knowing the original owner and whatever, but sales and cars and friends and money and all that doesn't always work out as great as you initially thought it would. Just throwing that out there.

Good luck with whatever you choose though. :mitsu:

Lowso Jun 23, 2010 10:33 AM

hmmm its full of tasteful mods but high mileage lol gl

sharkm87 Jun 23, 2010 10:44 AM

miles are on the body..rebuild the motor!!

Kilratio Jun 23, 2010 10:47 AM

I have to agree with everyone else. I would look for a lower mile car. Plus those mods scream hey I liked to drive my car fast. who knows if they beat the crap out of it while doing so. I know I do. That being said At least you know what you might be getting into with buying the modded car, and whats the worst that can happen.. the engine/drivetrain goes and you have to find another one to put in there. that can happen to any Evo. It does have thousands in modds alread done for you . So in the end its a matter of what you want to do with the car.

evo9801 Jun 23, 2010 12:51 PM

good price

Dube Jun 23, 2010 02:02 PM

I bought mine stock for 17k with 90k miles on it, people say I paid too much for it. But I got what I pay for. A sweet ride with no problems.
