hey guys just wondering if the evo is a hot item in the blackmarket? Imean how many of them have been stolen so far? Is there a registery for this type Of thinG?

Stolen for Joy rides I've heard about.. But its only a matter of time before someone figures out what parts can be swapped onto other cars.. I've heard a few stories about stolen spoilers.. Currently very few of the parts will swap without modification onto other cars.. I give it a year before someone swaps a set of HID's onto a honda Civic.. then you'll see a rash of them getting ripped off..

One thing I noticed is that they have the vin # on almost every sigle part of the car. So if someone wants to chop it up and sell parts individually then they have the stolen cars vin everywhere and would have to remove each sticker from each part which would be a pain, plus if buyer does homework and knows that vin is on each part and sees stickers off then would know they had stolen and could get busted. Also, If car is stolen and sold as whole (not parted off) then they would have to take it apart anyway to get rid of stickers and would have to worry about getting every piece off or someone noticing no stickers (like they really wrecked every part and had to replace...duh). So I was happy (sort of) to see this for stolen reasons, but if we ever wreck any part of car and replace part they will know it's been wrecked and replaced since the vin# is not on that piece. Example: bust front right fender and replace. looks good, but when you sell all they have to do is look under the hood and see that there is still a sticker on other side and not one on yours (or a different # from junkyard, what ever happens). Don't know if replacement pieces come with sticker?

That vin# sticker is visible on most cars sold recently here in the US...It's a federally mandated feature required of all cars that meet a certain 'theftability' criteria.

Most Japanese cars are stolen for engine, interior, or suspension parts....very few are stolen to be resold whole. Most of these engine, interior and suspension parts have no vin#'s on em.

btw, replacement OEM factory parts have no id stickers. So if you ever are in the market for a used car, and you see it has vin stickers, be alert for non stickered pieces. That could point to the possibly of a repair that may not have been disclosed by the owner.

No, dont think there will be much of a black market for the Evo, it has the VIN # all over the place. Ive heard of many stories of a joy ride in the Evo, but none for stealing and parting out the car. Just be careful, but I dont think us Evo owners will have a problem.

I got my bumper in today and it has no vin number. all replacement parts come with R-dot vin numbers as shown to me by a fellow member. Trusting people over the internet is hard.

by the way anyone have a stock trunk for sale (with vin please!)

Let's hope they will not steel parts out of our cars to import them to UK, that would be silly, but possible

dont our cars have a good immobilizer? THe only way to steal it is to tow it away. I have lo jack and two window etches on the car. One Vin etching and another is code etching.

I got rear ended. Fortunately it only affected the rear bumper and it's support, nothing else. The rear cover had to be replaced with a new one from Mitsu because one of the supporting tabs broke off in the collision. The new cover did not come with new tags, it came bare and had to be painted. Only the original pieces that came with the car will have the tags. They don't generate new tags. Parts get painted all the time and in the process the tags may have to come off. My newly painted rear bumper cover has no tags, but I got a receipt for the work so i'm not concerned.

I don't see why that's a problem. I'm sorry, but when you sell a car you have a duty to disclose whether or not it was wrecked. It's totally dishonest (and illegal, btw) to lie to a prospective buyer and cross your fingers that they won't notice the damage.
