Resetting the ECU?

OK... i've heard about people resetting their ECU's but then i heard two different ways. Like taking off the negative from the battery and taking out some fuse form the fuse box. Another question too, when should u reset your ECU? :dunno: Ive done a search but i found nothing that helped me. Hope someone can. THanks

i reset my ecu when i installed my aem cai. all i did was disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and wait about a half hour. reconnected it and was good to go.

I heard many different things:

- disconnect the battery and wait 10 minutes. Is there a rechargeable cell in the ECU?
- just drive normal after reset, it takes a few days to learn.
- drive aggressive, otherwise your car will be programed to slow.
- let it idle for 10 minutes after reset, leave it alone to do its own work.

which one is true?

i don't know if i did the right thing or not, but aftermy reset i did a few laps around my block. i probably wasted a couple of dollars in gas and 20 or 30 bucks in rubber, but i haven't seen any negative side affects. honestly it probably doesn't matter. i'm sure there are alot of people on here with mods that haven't even thought of reseting their ecu and their cars are fine. but who knows.

is there any rechargeable cell inside the ECU? Has anyone open up the ECU yet?

All you should do is disconnect your negative when doing work on your car then reconnect it when done then let it idal for about fifteen minutes then you are good to go.

Do You Have To Reset The Ecu When U Get A New Exhaust System. Does It Help

No, you do not need to reset the ECU when installing an exhaust system. It may be good practice to disconnect the negitive battery cable when installing a turboback due to the o2 sensor removal (technically, you should remove all power from the car when working with anything electronic).

As for reseting the ECU, OZracer66 has a correct and effective method.
