is this car worth 24k? and how much can I lowball to him? And Will it be easier to tune this car up to 800+whp than buying a stock evo 8 ? |

Without actually standing next to the car, I think it's a complete package! As long as it doesn't show ANY signs of abuse! It 'sounds' like all it needs is a re-clear job. A Stroker costs a lot of money, I'm building one myself. It looks like he's including all those extra parts too, that you can either keep, or sell...My personal opinion, this car is at least half way there to 800hp, so I think this car would be cheaper to get there...The advantage of starting with a stock motored car, is that you know every aftermarket piece that is being installed and can pick what you want, and the builder/tuner you choose.
Before you go any further, I'd ask him who built the motor/tuner, and talk directly to them, and get their thoughts...If the car turns out to be all he says it is, with the risk of him most likely being on EvoM (lol), for the hell of it, I'd start off at $21K, and work from there. Get the car tested!! Best of luck! Keep us updated! |
Why the original motor needed to be rebuilt with tell you everything you need to know-- in other words, if indeed it was taken care of the stock block would still be intact. Walk away while you can.

I own the car and would be more than happy to share the details.
Bought it from a member here 3 years ago at a great deal, but I've also put quite a good amount into making sure all is good. That asking price is nowhere close to recouping what I put in, but who would expect that anyway. Honestly I would think the most economical route to 800whp evo is buying one that's already there. Check out this one http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto/4894794510.html. It is not exactly 800whp but I think it's your best choice -- I think I've seen this car in person at FFTEC few years back and it's very nice! FFTEC dyno number is ridiculously low. Mine was measured at 471awhp on that same dyno with quiet exhaust and a CAT on a super conservative tune (detuned essentially). It used to put down 603awhp. Previous owner had dyno sheet and I am still keeping it. Anyway every dyno machine is different. I don't drive it much, kind of wasteful not being driven, thus looking for a trade. I have local shop look at it whenever I see any slight issue. I would be surprised if it would blow up but who knows ... however I wouldn't expect that to happen in the next 10 years:). I was told that the last weak link is the transfer case, but if I won't launch it at every street light then no need. I drive slow anyway. I still love it much and wouldn't mind keeping it another 10 years if nothing clicks and will update you guys. |
