Dumb parking question

Hi all,

I get that it's recommended to keep the car in gear when you park (1st if uphill and reverse gear if downhill). But my question is, does it matter in what order?

What I mean is, is it better to:

METHOD A:
1. Stop the car
2. Apply the parking brake
3. Shift into 1st or Reverse gear (While car is still running)
4. Turn off the ignition
-------------
OR
-------------
METHOD B:
1. Stop the car
2. Apply the parking brake
3. Turn off ignition
4. THEN shift into 1st or Reverse gear (after engine is off)

I've been following method A for years now. But after reading the users manual that came with my Evo X, I'm not quite sure if either method is better or worse for you car, transmission, etc. Any thoughts?

As long as you're not making the engine stop running by purposefully stalling it, either method should be fine

I follow method B myself.

Thanks for the input everyone.
Yeah, it's a dumb question. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't causing any minor damage. One of my friends mentioned something about it not being good for the transmission if you shift gears while the engine is off....that's why I figured I'd ask.

yeah, just make sure you put the clutch in before you shift, after you turn the engine off. also make sure you apply the parking brake proportional to releasing the actual brake, and at the intersection of braking friction versus horizontal momentum.

I do not even use the parking break, and I put it in first before I turn of the engine regardless of the direction of the hill.
